Not at all. It wont cure chemical imbalances in your brain but it will certainly help.

As someone who's spent a lifetime with depression and half a lifetime actually having close friends, I have two things to say. One, yes you're kind of wrong. Two, you're kind of not.

You will never be cured of depression. Friendship absolutely helps to see the good in life and enjoy it more, and that can make depressive episodes more bearable. You still have to learn coping skills within yourself, but absolutely, strong relationships help. They just aren't some magic solution alone.

I have more relationships than I even want to have and it doesn't really help my depression. Stuff is wrong in my brain and my chemical balance and will never be right.

Also some friends can make depression worse if they don't understand it. The "just cheer up" crowd is so annoying.
