I realized I have a pretty big backlog, so might as well clear some of the JRPGs I own cause they're arguably the largest games on my backlog, starting with this trilogy that has completely swept away board 8

There's a chance I'll play a couple small games in between as a change of pace but apart from that I'm just gonna go all in on the JRPGs in this topic

Others that I may play after I beat Trails:

Bravely Default
Dragon Quest 8
Xenoblade X
Persona 5
Xenoblade 2 cause it'll be out by the time I probably even finish FC >_>

If there's a large demand for a particular game I'll play that one first after the Trails trilogy

I tried playing this game once but ended up dropping it, I'll give it another go though because I didn't drop it out of dislike, but rather that I just didn't really have the time to play it.

As of right now, I'm at the sewers in the Prologue, so pretty early on. I like the team of Estelle and Joshua though, not used to a Female Lead having such boisterous personality while the male lead is more serious, usually it feels like it's the other way around to me in all the other JRPGs I've played. The start was a little slow, but plenty of comedy moments (The why is my present a boy still makes me laugh)

If there's anything that I should know about before continuing onward, let me know. I'm gonna be working a little bit on job applications before I pick it up again.

As of about an hour ago I decided that I would attempt to learn Japanese because I was pissed that Trails of Cold Steel 3 does not yet have a NA release date. Granted I know that is stupid because at a minimum it's a 3-4 year process to become anywhere near fluent so it won't remotely help me for his series but some day it might be useful!

Spent like 30 minutes on Duolingo. If I do 30 minutes a day it might accomplish something >_>

I fully expect me to give up on this after about a week.

Hahaha.

I did the same a few years ago (so instead of Cold Steel 3 it was more Zero/Ao and also SC/3rd in the dark days where we couldn't be sure)

but i broke

kanji =(

(There were other things going on in my life too so it wasn't "simply" that I broke but yeah. I still sort of regret it but really I'm not sure my odds of succeeding at self-learning were all that good.)

I remember thinking it would be easy to do this when I was 11 and wanted to figure out FE4/5. How foolish I was >_>

You got me the Third, this is FC. >_>

Also, so far I kinda like the tactical combat in this game, it's a little basic but I obviously expect it will pick up drastically. Gave Estelle the Water and Fire Orbments thus far, Joshua only has Time because yeah that's all you can use with him in that one slot.

Met some kids in the street. I find it funny that Estelle is essentially a rival with them. A little bit of the lighthearted charm of the game thus far.

Game introduces me to the recipe system, it seems like a fun way to gauge recovery for the OCDish type in me

Game is now directing me to go north towards the tower, I guess that's where that "secret base" is!

I played a little earlier and my game crashed, but uh trying again >_>

Got through the tower, Estelle's dad kills shark thingy that poor Estelle did not mention so much. Seems like Estelle's not exactly the kind of person who was very happy about that! Poor Estelle.

Did a few of the side quests, The rock in the sewer wasn't too hard to find, but the monster self destructing surprised me a little bit. I also got an extra slot for Joshua so he doesn't just have time (Wind seemed fitting just because he was like a super fast ninja with those dual swords and such)

Now to go head down to this farm

Got through the farm quest, it wasn't too hard, letting the little critters escape is a pretty nice touch, gives it some lightheartedness.

I got an Impede 2 from one of the quests, does that mean I don't have to get the Impede 1 Orbment at all?

At the mines, the music here's pretty nice

Estelle super distracted by nice shiny sepith, man she's like such a goofy kid haha

and now the mine caves in and there's crab monsters everywhere now, clear them all up and then save the miners. It appears one of them may have been a spy who intentionally sabotaged it?

I then return the Sepith to the mayor, there's a girl there too. Turns out the thing's a gift for the queen! He then stores it in a safe for safe keeping, judging by the faces, it seems these are pretty important NPCs, so maybe something pops up later?

Afterwards, hand it in and get told I have to work with Liberl media, I think that wraps up tonight's session. Sorry if I'm going a little more slowly, I'm trying to push a little bit at a time so I don't feel fatigue

I take the reporters to the tower, pretty straightforward there. Dorothy is essentially the ditziest character ever though. There's this scientist guy there and that's about it.

All of a sudden, the mayor's place gets robbed! Turns out the safe has been put for prints and they wore masks in a group and had a leaf from a foreign country in there. Schera and Joshua instantly suspect the girl, so we go to the hotel to find out what's going on there, she left, and there isn't any prints left! Not a good sign.

Schera is pretty strong, enough to really carry my party for the time being (4 levels above the rest of my party)

I eventually come against Josette, yep she's the bandit alright. Turns out she continually mocks Estelle, and nobody makes fun of Estelle Bright and gets away with it! I beat up the bandits pretty easily, take the sepith, but then they get away after Schera toys with them a little bit.

Afterwards, I get news from the guild that the aircraft Estelle's father is on is missing, to the shock of the rest of the party, and the prologue ends.

Estelle plans on finding her father, naturally. So it seems like we're about done in Rolent and it's time to head to Bose.

Going to take a break now, but I will say I'm close to where I was earlier

Met the Bose Mayor, she's pretty great, skipping religious services to scold capitalist merchants for raising prices, and looking out for the good of the city by investigating the case further.

Afterwards, we meet a mysterious guy, who is a pevert, as Estelle points out, and the General. The general says they believe it was by sky bandits known as the Capua brothers. After Estelle points out there's a run in with them, the general gets suspicious, and throws them out. They almost fight into the mystery guy sings a song (the namesake of the game, in fact) and then the general just leaves. The guy introduces himself as Olivier, and he joins our party.

I kinda like him, though I wish I had more of an opportunity lately to play @_@

On that note, because I love mentioning this in every TitS playthrough topic, in the Japanese Evolution remake, Dorothy is voiced by the same actress who plays Kuroko from A Certain Scientific Railgun, if you're familiar with that.

I actually did not like Estelle in combat much which was frustrating considering she was the main character. Finding an Orbment setup that worked well for her was really hard for me, since she doesn't have enough linked slots to easily get the high-end spells, but she also doesn't really make up for it by having better attacking stats as you'll see with some of the party members who come later.

The only issue I ever had was the game would sometimes crash when I alt-tabbed. Like when I beat the final boss after 8 hours of trying.

Estelle was usually the Earth Wall spammed for me, despite everybody yelling at me that she's supposed to BEAT. THINGS. UP. WITH. A. STICK.

btw, how many carnelias do you have?

I think almost all of FC I had Estelle as a healer, and then by late game in SC she was mainly a physical attacker, but I had it set up so she also had backup access to various support skills in case my main support/healer became overloaded.

I had Estelle as a physical attacker but I also had everyone rolling with a HP quartz so everyone could function as an emergency healer if needed. Estelle's whole thing is that her unrestricted orbment lets her be able to fit whatever role you need her to at the time.

Immunity just rocks in general. It's usually easier to just make everybody immune to an attack than healing later, especially when taking debuffs into account.

To be honest, some of the monster chests just need to be blitzed and won as fast as possible.

I gave it a go against the first boss fight, Seemed decent as it was a way to block some damage, probably better against certain big threat baddies

If there was a reliable way to restore EP this early on, I'd probably use it more, but hey. More of a fan of Aerial right now.

Caught up to the sky bandits, they escape again, search the airliner to find nothing. Then the army shows up and arrests us. Joshua notices that the bandits said something peculiar, which suggests there's a mole in the army! Man Joshua's always one step ahead of the curve. Anyway, Olivier gets arrested and tells a story that causes the party to fall asleep (man he's the Maechen esque type too? This guy's everything!) and then I get released by the mayor (and Olivier does too) so now Olivier rejoins us!
