Are PC and console games becoming obsolete due to smartphone/tablet games?

In 10 years, will consoles exist? After all, even the Nintendo Switch is not a real console but built like a dockable tablet...in power and form factor, it's closer to an iPad Pro than a PS4 Pro and has a tablet CPU. To add to that, 42% of all gaming revenue is made through smartphone and tablet games. Surely the Switch is adding to that as well.

Eventually yeah, but we're still getting some A+ software on consoles which is keeping the demand alive and the markets separate. But I think it's only a matter of time until we use 1 device for virtually all of our media.

This would be a great reference if mobile gaming went from 0% to 40% instantly instead of increasingly gobbling up share every year at a steady pace for the last decade or so.

It won't make console gaming "obsolete" but it will make it a pretty limited niche. Hell, I'd say it probably already has.

Like literally always, then? Console games have always been a "big niche". They will remain that way, as mobile games spread to the huge broad market share that consoles could never reach. This is obvious looking at the absolute numbers.

The point of the reference is that 0% to 10% to 20% to 30% doesn't mean it will reach 100% (i.e. console games obsolete).

I dunno, I think between the late-90s and late-00s console gaming was fairly mainstream. PC was always niche, yeah.

Switch is a dedicated Gaming platform: I.E. a Console.
It has tablet properties, because it's also a Handheld, but it's a console that's like a Tablet, not a Tablet like a console.

PC is as strong as ever.

Mobile revenue is from Gambling- gachas and their ilk. That's like saying trying to analyze say, tabletop gaming but including poker and blackjack.

PC and console gaming has never reduced since the 90s. Mobile only grew.

I'm not talking about revenues, I'm talking about general cultural relevance.

Really, dude? Most of the biggest selling games of yesteryear were PC games. Stuff like Myst and the Sims, not to mention games like Bejeweled and the racks of Mahjong and Tycoon games you used to see at retail stores.

THAT'S the segment of gaming being killed by mobile. People looking for casual experiences can find them much easier on mobile devices.

You might not consider it gaming because you're "hardcore" or whatever the fuck, but it is gaming nonetheless

Ok so you concede the original argument which started from the easily measurable "42% of all gaming revenue" and switched to a subjective thing that doesn't really mean anything and is impossible measure, in attempt to save your argument. Except it doesn't even work because "cultural relevance" of consoles and PC games have been increasing just the same, by any measure.
