Let's say you're for example hanging out with people who are akin to friends, and they make fun of you over something you say and do. But then when you similarly return a joke in kind they get up in a huff and storm out or act insulted and become in a sullen mood the rest of the night.

Those are the worst type of people. I personally don't like making fun of people and definitely don't like being made fun of, but in a group setting I'll laugh good-humoredly and maintain amicable relationships with everyone.

But if you're going to make fun of someone and then get upset when they do the same, you're a pretty terrible person.

I've grown around people like that my entire life and while for the most part they don't happen to be in my life, on occasion when I do interact with them it just reminds me of how much I dislike those kinds of people.

It depends. There are certain lines you don't cross, and sometimes when people make this complaint, the person who could dish it out and not take it was not crossing a line that the other person was crossing. Without more context, it's hard to say if that's the case here.

The line for most people is simply being made fun of especially in front of a group, which undermines one's credibility and makes them lose respect in the eyes of their peers. I'd rather one not make fun in the first place.

seen a case of a guy literally cross the line he didn't want crossed with him, and got pissed when someone gave it right back to him, whining about how hes made it clear he didn't want that line crossed. though in this case it wasn't verbal insults it was putting someone in "choke hold" while horse playing, as he was apparently scared of being choked. well dipshit don't do it to other people if you don't want it done to you.

more on topic though. only met one person I liked that could dish it out but not take it, but that was my grandfather, and it didn't bother me so much because it was really easy to use to my advantage. if he was pissing me off, just give it right back to him and he'd shut up and leave me alone. though another way to shut him up which always amused me is he'd make gay jokes towards me and my best friend. saying shit like "did you kiss him goodnight" or calling him my "butt fuck buddy" so me and my best friend just started playing gay around him for awhile. or i'd just respond with going into a story about us fucking all night long. he quit doing that.
