Gillespie was a never-Trumper last year, and edged out the America First candidate in the primaries. He only adopted a Trump-lite rhetoric afterwards because he knew it was the only thing that gave him a fighting chance in a blue state. But that wasn't enough because people remember, and won't support a wolf that hastily put on some sheep clothing.
