Because you get snow flakes like jimmy kimmel who get so emotional over something like this. when emotions run high people make stupid decisions like wanting to ban guns.. news flash, people like the church shooter, will get guns regardless, and iirc, he was stopped by someone with a shot gun...

there are so many news stories of people stopping mass shootings due to law abiding citizens with guns, the media doesn't want people to know about.. so they don't report it.

mental illness is the issue.. the gun is a tool.

there was a stabbing in a city near me.. should we look at banning knives??

If it's too soon to talk about gun policy for this shooting. Can we finally talk about it for the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting. Surely five years is enough time to pass to not be labeled "too soon" right? How much time must pass? How about Columbine in 1999? Too soon?

Nothing happened.

Almost 30 people killed, more than half of them children, and we didn't do shit about gun control.

America has a gun problem and half the country will never get it.

The problem is plenty of people with credibility still use terms like "assault rifles" and don't appreciate the difference between an auto and a semi-auto, etc.

I can see how frustrating it would be to be dictated to about how the government should ban stuff by people who have clearly no idea what they're talking about.

It's all the right has. As soon as you say someone wants to take away their guns, that's all they hear. Even when it is completely false. I can't imagine anyone with any authority is actually suggesting forcibly removing every gun from every home. That is impossible for a million reasons. And no one actually wants that. What we want is background checks for every transaction--anywhere. Don't say that's already the case because it isn't you fucking liar. What we want is a national database of gun owners. If we have to register our cars, a tool for transportation, why the hell wouldn't we have one for guns? What we want is funding for mental health care. What we want is research into gun crimes, which is blocked by NRA lobbying. These are not outlandish requests.

Trump showing here that he's exactly the reserved and compassionate we all thought he was. A man who pulls his punches and calls for calm and unity in times of unrest.

I'm sure we can all expect him to continue this calm and modest behaviour in other circumstances, perhaps when the perpetrator isn't a white man wielding an AR-15.

Because bearing arms is a right and driving a car is not

Also, unlike what you claim, there are politicians who said they want full confiscations and a national registry would make such a thing way easier if enough psychos like that were elected.

Also, criminals won't bother registering their guns so it's a doubly idiotic idea.

It became a right back when it took fucking minutes to reload a gun.

If you really think people should have the same rights to guns now as they did back when this was written, you're a god damn idiot.

False. The founding fathers had repeating rifles, not just muskets.

Also this logic is fucking insane if you attributed it to anything else. Should we do away with the freedom of speech since the founders also didn't know about the internet where you can communicate to millions of people all over the world within seconds?

A 2016 poll suggested that a majority of Texans support background checks on gun sales.
https://www.texastribune.org/2016/02/25/uttt-poll-texans-favor-background-checks-all-gun-s/
2014 polling said the same thing

2013 polling said the same thing:
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/dc/even-texas-voters-support-background-checks-on-guns

You can decry quick reactions to individual events like yesterday's, but given the frequency of these tragedies, and the consistency of opinions on the matter, I think it's disingenuous to suggest that these are just kneejerk emotional responses.

If you wait until it's been two months from a mass shooting to discuss appropriate policy responses, you will never get to have that discussion.

Maybe it's time to stop. Cars are more useful than guns and being able to drive those isn't a right.

Why do we treat America's two deadliest weapons so differently? I mean, people will drive cars even if you take away their license. What is the point of restrictions on law abiding citizens?

As we saw in NY it's very easy to acquire and misuse a vehicle. Why doesn't that same standard apply to guns?

Simple. What is the main purpose of a gun? to kill people. That is what it was made for. Even using it right your intention is to kill people. A car on the other hand? It's main purpose is transportation, quicker transportation. When used correctly is is not a threat to anyone.

Now I am pro gun and pro gun rights. If anything we need to be cracking down on illegal fire arms.

Still why are people even worried about our guns being taken away? The republicans are in control of every branch of the government right now.
