Its election time in September and the realisation that those four parties could come back to power honestly scare me. Not even the traditionally Right-wing policies I agree with happened: we got our most generous immigration laws ever during those years and our military was starved since our Conservative PM called the Armed Forces a special interest group. Electing and re-electing Fredrik Reinfeldt as PM was the Swedish equivalent to the election and re-election of Bush in terms of how could it happen?!

So what happened between 2006-2014? Here are some of the juicier parts:

* The national budget was turned from a surplus to a big deficit to fund tax cuts for the richest members of society (the Socialdemocrats created the surplus the Right-wingers squandered and they have now made a new surplus too).

* Social safety nets were weakened in ways which really hit at the sick and poor. Forcing people with terminal cancer to search for jobs 40 hours a week if they wanted to keep healthcare was reasonable to Reinfeldt.

* Our military was extremely weakened. The Socdems are greatly raising funding now tho.

* We got way too generous immigration laws which were a national security risk - all in the name of personal freedom. The Socdems have introduced some of the thoughest immigration laws in the EU now tho.

* The richest got richer while the poor got poorer creating areas with increased social unrest.

* They destroyed our efficient state owned pharmacy simply because it was state owned. A majority of the population think the privatization has led to worse pharmacy services with many meds not being in store (instead you need to wait to have it ordered), less availability in the countryside etc.

* New house construction almost stood still compared to now.

* Functional schools, nursing homes, health-care centers were sold way below market value to private companies who in several cases went bankrupt leaving students without a school, patients without a health-care center and so forth.

* The Nuon energy company deal which the Government was advised against but did anyway which led to 100 billions of tax payer crowns going up in smoke.

But it doesnt really matter, none of the parties got any reality check, both the right and left sides have put us where we are today.

Im not saying the Left is perfect but the Socialdemocrats at least got many bills implemented which prove they care about people. And its interesting that all Right-wing governments during the past couple decades have given us a financial deficit which the Socialdemocrats then turn into a surplus after a few years back in power. The Right talk about fiscal responsibility but the economy is weaker under them.

Yes these are typical Right-wing policies. Hence why I dont want them in power. The point of this topic is how they did all that while also messing up things they are supposed to be good at.
