Gamergate happened because the radical left owned the gaming media, now it's full of leftist moderates who look right to radicals.

almost all criticism to videogames 3 or 4 years ago and before was from the right...blaming videogames for mass shootings, for 'wasting time' for being sex simulators ...a few years ago all criticism to games was from conservatives, from the right such as this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKzF173GqTU

Also remember jack Thomson https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Thompson_(activist)

Then around 3 to 4 years ago criticism began to come from the left rather than the right... what happened?

I don't give a fuck to reviews anymore.
If I see something that interests me then I'm buying it.
I have my own opinion on games and that matters more to me than any random "professional game reviewer"s so called opinion on the Internet.

Exceptions exists in form of friends and friendlies on this board though.

We started to see more self-aimed constructive criticism from gamers themselves, which led to a divide when other gamers saw such analysis as an attack.

Who cares? The media will always try to put video games and music in a bad light because it gets more attention than showing off what good comes from all forms of entertainment. Saying "video games causes school shootings" causes soccer moms to actually pay attention rather than "video games improve hand-eye coordination".

Jump up and down and move it all around
Shake your head to the sound
Put your hands on the ground
Take one step left and one step right
One to the front and one to the side
Clap your hands once and clap your hands twice
And if it looks like this then you're doing it right

Who and what sites are you talking about? Not that I ever had a huge pool of websites I drew gaming news/editorial from but I used to go to Destructoid and then Polygon and I've always liked GiantBomb (mostly for Jeff and the GiantBombcast specifically). People constantly rail on Polygon and Kotaku for being SJW, Anthony Burch and Jim Sterling (they were the big names when I was following Destructoid) are both extremely leftist and always have been and GiantBomb is largely apolitical but mostly in line with liberal positions when politics comes up directly. I consider Waypoint to be a GiantBomb offshoot and now that they've fully found their political voice I can barely tolerate listening to their podcast and am not sure why I still do other than from habit and desire for content.

Ian Miles Chong is the only right-wing games personality I can name and I've never read anything he's done other than some screengrabbed tweets. Milo doesn't count since he just goes wherever he can cause a ruckus. He would honestly write about knitting if he thought he could cause a huge shitstorm doing it.

Edit: Did you mean "mainstream criticism of games" and not "games critics"? Seems like I might've misunderstood what you were talking about exactly.

I meant mainstream news outlets like fox news, NBC etc....up to 4 years ago almost all attacks were coming from right leaning sites...you know because games were a new medium and conservatives hate new stuff...but all of a suden attacks from the right went down and left leaning sites began to attack gamers.

It's just bait for clicks. People know where to get review and news for games, but put up a headline like, "yt male ppl ruining our games and why you are wrong if you disagree" and the you go to check what TF is mentally wrong with them and get blind sided by the few others who believe in it and it turns into a shit fest.

Duckbear topics used to be the exact same way, but indifference and this sites decline has tamed them down over the years.

The left has been criticizing games as long as they existed. Go watch old Donahue, Oprah segments demonizing video games, and I believe Tipper Gore made it one of her platforms as well.
