for real. i get apple dropping it because they own a massive headphones company but idk why HTC or Google would do it when there's no benefit. if it's to make the phones thinner i think that is pretty ridiculous given that most people put their phones in big ass cases anyway

It's an anti-consumer move that saves the phone companies money. It's not like the headphone jack is being replaced with better/newer tech. It's just being removed and offering you inferior alternatives.

It really is. I use Google fi and it's like, well shit. I'm not stuck with many options here. My Nexus 6p will have to go eventually.

I could "design" a phone that would be awesome for me, but the industry would think it a joke apparently because I want to keep features like headphone jacks, removable battery, expandable storage, etc etc etc

The move away from replaceable batteries drives me crazy. It's such a simple thing to have... I know the company maybe loses out on money when people can buy a $20 battery to keep their device going instead of having to pay $50+ to get it replaced, or even hundreds of dollars to just replace their "aging" device.

yeah the most disappointing part of the removal of the 3.5mm jack was that Lightning/Bluetooth headphones were supposed to take off and they really haven't

I'm sure USB C headphones haven't taken off either, but I would bet those will be in a better spot in a few years once USB C starts showing up on every new computer/etc

I just upgraded from a 5 to a 6 plus a few weeks ago because of this. I use my iphone for music all the time and I got my car right before bluetooth became common in them. My car still has a solid 4-5 years left too.

In the future I'll likely be forced to get an ipod while upgrading my phone or potentially just going back to flip phone.

The phone will play sounds through the buds to scan your ear structure, then tune the noise canceling for your personal needs. It seems a little gimmicky, but it actually works HTC will let you hear music both with and without your audio profile, and I could hear a major difference.

Good point, I have an android-based Sony Walkman that I could use for just music :\ The only other thing I really need is a GPS for navigation because traffic here is so spotty.
