Trying to stay under $500-600. Not looking for a gaming laptop, just one that isn't as decrepit and old as my current 2013(?) ASUS.

Gonna hit up a variety of places.

What brands should I avoid?

In my opinion, the one brand you should stay away from is Acer especially at that price point. But that's based on a bad personal experience I had several years ago.

What are you wanting it for? If it's work/school the large, small bezel display of this one should be good and come in and the low end of your budget.

I currently have an ASUS. It's a third gen hand me down though so I don't know when it was made

black friday you'll prolly be able to pick up a sabre 15 for around that.

it's pretty gud. ran everything I've thrown at it at max setting smoothly so far (besides AC origins, but I blame the DRM for that).

The reason I'd suggest the model I listed is because it has a newly released currently gen CPU that's 4 cores and 8 threads vs 2 cores and 4 threads in the one you're looking at there.

With a keyboard attachment it might be alright for basic computing needs like word processing, browsing media and checking e-mails, but... blech I hate the idea of using a tablet for any sort of "serious" computing.

Anything beyond the above mentioned uses... so like any sort of video or photograph editing, music editing, etc. I have a hard time conceptualizing tablets for even word processing to be honest, just because of the limited screen space. I know the UI is designed for that but... it just feels really restricting to me (personally).

Anything more than web browsing, email, word documents, YouTube, etc.
