Ok. They have a demon thing locked up behind glass. They can't kill it but they can keep it contained with fire. Annoying, but manageable.

Oh, wait. It's actually spreading into the ground, and killing all kinds of crops? Ok, well that isn't good, but nothing a bit more fire can't sizzle out. That should still be containable.

Oh shit, they found ways to somehow inhabit HUMANS? Well fuck.

Oh, and now there are a literal army of demo-dogs which can overpower armed military and have acquired a taste for some delicious longpig?

Seriously. They lost me at human hosts, but the dogs were just way too much. Why the fuck did the military not nuke this town off the face of the map?

Eeven after the gate was closed, it still seems like a good idea to do it. This is shit that simply cannot be allowed to spread or continue on in any capacity.

Even if it's a shady government operation, I doubt they'll ever get approval to nuke a US city.

Not only that, I doubt any conventional weapons would do anything to close the gate.

Demodogs only kicked ass because they ambushed those soldiers and they're bullet resistant. A full grown demo with shadow walk got it's ads kicked by the coolest kid in school and his gf. Prepared soldiers with flamethrowers would've secured the town pretty quickly.

This is a hypothetical situation that cannot be contained and is rapidly spiraling out of control.

Just like a zombie outbreak, or some alien invasion like in Independence Day or even The Avengers.

Like, yeah, its a catastrophe. But if it seems unlikely that you can save the city anyway, its better to nuke them before they spread and demolish everywhere. It's called minimizing the fallout.

maybe I need to rewatch, but wasn't the issue that they weren't successfully containing it with fire?

so nuking the place would have hurt the shadow monster but if it left the portal open it would continue to spread anyway
