Board 8 > 2017 Horror Icon Day Final results, discussion, and wrap up.

Once again, Count Dracula himself has taken the title of horror icon. This time defeating fellow classic icon the Frankenstein Monster 11-6. Dracula showed very little signs of weakness. He's closest call came against Micheal in the Elite Eight and that was still a three vote win. Regardless, some icons did improve from how they did in the past, while others kinda floundered and just served as fodder. Still, this year was fun. Like I said in the beginning of each topic, I love doing this contest, it's just hard to get the time to organize noms and then set everything up every year =/. Next year will be no different as October 20th of next year will be my wedding date so.......lol. I might try to squeeze it in September before I get too busy, but if I don't get to do it all next year there's always 2019. Thanks to everyone who voted and had fun with it this year.

Thoughts on the future.....

So obviously Drac is strong. I thought about maybe doing it this year but decided to just play it out since it's been three years, but whenever the next contest does occur should we.....retire Dracula in general, retire him from the main contest and have a special final with him, or just leave him in and see if someone can take him down.

I've tried different nomination phase all three times. I feel this years worked ok, but at the same time we had a cluster of two nom'd icons despite unlimited seconds. Suggestion on how to handle that. I believe in '14 I just did an extra day or two of seconded the cluster rather then randomizing so maybe that's a better solution?

Is 64 a good number? I'd love to 128, but again the cluster and with 128 it would have been a cluster of 1 nom'd characters. 32 seems small but it might lead to some more meaningful matches.

I kinda left the door open to anything being nominated this year, but piece of music and whatnot seemed to much to me lol. Any thoughts on limitations next time. I thought the addations of real life icons wouldn't have been interesting but it did turn out to be. Still wish some actors like Price or Lugosi would have made it, but now that it's been shown non fictional icons have legs to stand on, they could make an impact in the future.

64 seems ok but I'd like to see 128 if we could get the numbers without barrel scraping. I think media in general is a bad idea, no music/literature just keep it to people/characters imo.

he's basically Link at this point; it's almost unfair to everyone else

64 is good but I'd love to see 128. I know it'll basically still be the same ones on top, but it feels weird having some of the major ones excluded here (Jason Voorhees didn't even make the bracket!)

If Drac does get taken out I'd def. do a bonus match with him at end. Jason, the Wolf Man, Godzilla, Kong all only had one nom. each and they were from me >.> lol. Jack Torrence (even though he missed out because of random.org) was another big one I think got left out, granted we had 4 King character and him in it. Also, I'd be curious to see how Castlevania chars. would do. It won the franchise poll, so I'd have to imagine Alucard, Simon, and some others would do well.

I think a lot of the big nominations got excluded because people didn't want to waste nominations on ones they thought were obvious choices (aiming to get their own favorites in)

I think potentially having a bigger roster and more nominations per user would make up for that

Well it was 10 per day and unlimited seconds >.> lol. I know what you mean though about holding out so your favorites don't get knocked out. I didn't really want encourage trades, but maybe next time I could "allow" it.

I mean you could just flex it to include every icon with 2 or more noms, and have play-in matches to get to 64.
