should movies made by rapists hollywood producers\actors not be watched anymore?

Should there be a sort of "bible burning" regarding the hollywood films that sexual assaulters produced, wrote and acted in?

How can we watch these movies and shows knowing what they in a sense let happen or maybe in some ways were complicit in?
Tbh, haven't watched Cosby since that all happened.

I agreed with removing confederate statues. They are a reminder of hate and it serves no purpose for certain bad people to be memorialized.
In a way, doesn't certain films do this to some very bad people? I think so.

We shouldn't immortalize and glamour these kind of people. It shouldn't matter how good the movie is tbh.

why do we want a memorial of a man who sexually abused women sitting there for 100 of years?

the film is the product of a lot more than that, whereas civil war monuments to confederate leaders really don't memorialize anything else. most of the victims worked on the movies in question at some point, so it's really more a question of what do they want? i think few would want the movies dropped because the producers assaulted/harassed women. producers were principally financiers, not creative directors. the movie is not really their baby. it's the writer's/director's/actors' baby.

also more broadly- rebelling against the united states in order to preserve the institution of slavery is a more evil act than sexual harassment of women. it's certainly at least as bad as sexually assaulting women, so really the only place this conversation even has comparative merit (as opposed to being false equivalency) would be with those who raped people.

If you don't want to watch them, that's fine. It's your choice and I don't feel it necessary to judge you for feeling uncomfortable with the material. That said, I can make my own decisions about what to watch. I'm an adult and I assume you are, too. I really don't want to live in a nanny state.

I'm not okay with erasing history for any reason. I definitely don't want somebody thinking it's okay to decide what I can and can't watch.

Separate the art from the artist. You can praise the work they have done while also condemning their actions. It's also not fair to everyone else that has worked on these films and did nothing wrong.

If I can get the same product elsewhere for the same price, I might look elsewhere. Otherwise, nah, I'd just keep going. Like the Chick-fil-A outrage some years ago; I already knew about them before the public started complaining and got it brought to the attention of the masses but I kept eating there anyway because it was on campus and I had friends that worked there that would give me free food.

Movies are a creative product of hundreds of people. Set to tell a story independent of the actors/producers/directors/writers personal lives. The product is ultimately it's own thing. It does not memorialize, celebrate, or revel in the personal lives of those involved.

A Civil War statue is literally memorializing people who at the very least activity rebelled against America so that southern states could keep their state right to have people own other human beings. The statues are completely linked to that cause. You can't say separate the man from the work because in that case the work is about the man.

Now don't get me wrong, things that do celebrate these Hollywood scumbags should be removed. That includes things like their stars on the walk of fame.

Many US companies had no problems with selling equipment to the Nazis during the war.
IBM is famous for this.
Standard Oil, which pretty much had monopoly in the US oil business, sold oil to the Nazis which was the only reason why they could keep their Luftwaffe alive for so long.

I honestly dont have a strong opinion one way or the other, but Im not going to boycott a film because one person that was involved in the project happened to have done something shitty in the past. So many more people put their time and effort into that film and they deserve recognition.

I detach the art from the artist. These days it seems people are trying to score moral points by being outraged and staging a boycott.

Also why punish the all the other members of the production team for the off the job actions of one bad apple?

do you believe boycotts in general are not right?

if you boycott a big store because the CEO donates to anti-homosexual groups, are you not hurting all the other people in the company who worked hard that had nothing to do with it?

I think it is pointless really. At the same time your hurting people who got nothing to do with it.

Now boycotting a product because it is bad? That is a different matter.
