Better ask yourself if it's worth explaining the gap in your work history, because you sure as hell won't want to say you've worked there after leaving in a bad way.

You can always play the student card and say something in life allowed you to not work for a period of time and you chose to focus on your studies.

Having said that, if they suck as bad as you say and you're willing to accept the consequences of burning bridges, by all means... moon away ;)

I was only on the job for a month so it's all good. Plus it was right after my government internship which will stand out so much more on the resume.

Grad student focusing on studies is valid and enough reason. I'm in a joint masters degree program.

You think you know there will be no fallout for yourself and only for them but you're thinking emotionally. They've paid you and kept a house over your head for however long you worked for them. It might not have been the best arrangement for you but why not be classy about it?

lol, stop. They didn't do all that. I worked part time for federal work-study.

I don't even think there will be much fallout for them, either. They can manage the tutoring and find a replacement for me within a reasonable time frame.

Ugh... yes it is

But her internship experienced prevails alongside what shes doing. Im pretty sure most of you have never even had to explain gaps to interviewers/recruiters. Unless you got fired for doing something really stupid, employers really dont dwell on it too much (based off my personal experience on quitting a job, they are curious but not as suspicious as people made them out to be)

They paid you right? They certainly contributed to your being able to live your life, even if they contributed other unsavory things. Why be so dramatic about it? Just say you took on the work and it was a little too much than what you were expecting and offer two weeks. They may be gracious enough to just let you go with a good notice. There are ways of quitting without giving two weeks without being a dick about it.

I wasn't a dick about it. I didn't say "fuck this, I don't like working for you." The rudest part was the short notice I gave, and I even apologized for that. Every party involved will survive.

That's not so bad. How long were you with them again? 70% of the kids that work for my family's business quit without saying anything at all. Just stop showing up. Even if you tell them before they start, explicitly, "Hey heads up, tell me if this isn't working out for you so I can make arrangements and not schedule you anymore, no hard feelings"... they still don't do it. Then again it is seining and that's hard brutal work, but still.

Somewhat on that same note, I've had the phrase "The heart is a lonely hunter" stuck in my head for at least a day now. Finally decided to just listen to the song but can't seem to find the rendition with the right band since I'm thinking of male vocalists.

It's only a gap in the most literal sense of the word "history". Like yeah, you can't change the fact that it existed, but you can choose what you document on your resume and applications. A student shouldn't have to explain gaps because working while attending school is considered going above and beyond, not the expectation. The only thing she might have to explain is why it only lasted a month... but that's not explaining the "gap", and that question probably won't come up if she doesn't tell people about the position.

Just quit in the best way and not the worst way. I haven't read every single post but enough to realize this is just a bit job that is just a bump in the road.

It's not like they're going to haunt you down the road for stealing company secrets. Just move on.

I just want to shoot off an email an hour before my shift start to say I quit effective immediately

It's terrible, rude, and burns all bridges. But damn do I just want to do it and never have to show up there again. I deserve any shit that comes my way after I do it (if I get the balls to do it, even)

Happier Mondays to the rest of youse~

you could be a bigger dick and do it like I did a job once, come in the next day when you are supposed to show up tell them you quit and walk right back out the door. I was just super pissed with my job. they gave me a quarter raise and started acting like because I got that raise I had to be perfect despite knowing I wasn't when I got the raise. and then the straw that broke the camels back as they say was, I got told by a manager I could go home despite how busy it was, and I asked if she was sure, she said yeah so I left. came back in the next day to find out she wrote me up for refusing to stay during a rush. and I got told if something like that happened again i'd be fired.

Welp, day two of no job and I definitely don't regret quitting! I did much better on my statistics midterm than on my econ one yesterday, but now I have time this afternoon to work on my problem sets. Sat in on an academic workshop for lunch which was really helpful anxiety-wise.

I think I'll even put on my casual Wonder Woman costume when I go out later this afternoon

lol, well back in undergrad I put more effort into it. Made the top and tiara myself, even ordered the specific costume boots. Now I just have a T-shirt and some yoga pants with the WW logos on 'em. Oh, and a pair of socks with capes on the back.

My buddy got fucked over by GS after a revolving door of bad managers over the course of a year or so... he held the place together but no promotion because of some automated transaction accuracy process they use for it. The irony being theres only a paper trail for existing staff, so outside hires get a huge advantage.

Anyway, he waited until they were as short staffed as possible and just left his keys with a coworker, texted fuck this company, I quit to the DM and everything imploded.

I like the current manager a lot, so I kind of felt bad for her getting screwed by proxy in the whole mess, but I dont blame him for doing what he did either.
