Mine is apparently just pure first come/first serve. Everything around Christmas is blacked out for us because this father and son in my department took off over two weeks around Christmas. It's kinda frustrating.

At my brother's job, I'm not sure exactly how it works but they all get sorta crappy allotments for Christmas if they put in for it but they won't just give it all to one person if they put in for it.

How does yours work?

Never been an issue at my place. There are always a few people that stick around for most of it. The office is closed Christmas and Boxing Day.

I've always been able to get the two weeks around Christmas off.

First come first serve. The company allots 80 vacation hours every workday of the year, and needless to say the vacation hours between Christmas and New Years get booked really quick, usually by the preceding January.

My work shuts down xmas week with no pay. If you have vacation days you can use them but if not your out of luck and loose 30-40 hours pay. Lame

We get Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Years Day off. Vacations and Discrepancy Days end the second week of November and begin again the second week of January.

And we run mandatory extra shifts on the weekends.

I work in an office so generally getting time off isn't too difficult. But there is an expectation that if there's an emergency that you have to be available as on-call. That's fairly rare though.

They bank all the minor federal holidays and we get a little over a week of paid time off between Christmas and New Years.

Workplace needs someone there every single day of the year. Last year I was the person who worked Christmas day.

The office is closed for Christmas. Those who don't celebrate sometimes come in and get some extra work done, but for the most part people take the Christmas-New Years week off. Christmas and New Years are, of course, stat holidays but the remaining time is personal time, so you have to take it as vacation.

I get 2 weeks off around Christmas, but don't get any vacation time off (even on holidays) again until Memorial Day.

Yeah everyone gets holidays and vacation time that we can use any time we want. It's very very rarely rejected (usually only when it's on short notice and there's a really important deadline coming up) and as far as I know has never been rejected during a holiday.

First come first serve. My team doesn't work Bank Holidays (i.e. Christmas Day), so in order to get paid I have to book it as Annual Leave.
