I am not vegetarian/vegan, but I do agree with this analysis. I think that most of us here who are atheists can relate.

btw, does anyone know if there are any vegan cheese substitutes that are actually good? I could go vegetarian easily (I rarely eat meat as it is), but I am not sure I could give up cheese.

No it's not wrong at all, it's natural. Honestly Vegans are the most insecure people on the planet. Always pontificating about their choice of diet and being smug about it. It just reeks of insecurity.

Sure, it's "morally superior" when you factor in the state of production farms and processing plants. Doesn't mean I'm going to stop eating meat, though. Shit's tasty.

When growing meat from plants becomes a thing, people from the future will go nuts over how barbaric our farming industry is. Literally keeping animals that can feel companionship and pain in order to kill and rip apart to be placed into plastic.

But god damn it's tasty

There is nothing natural about factory farming. I am neither vegan nor vegetarian, but you dont see me losing my shit and acting elitist like you and others ITT. I recognize that yeah, there is a moral argument to be made for vegans and vegetarians, and I have the balls to admit that my lifestyle might be wrong.

That is a pretty primal view. How far do you take it? Should we just behave like animals an all facets of life? If humans have the power to make things better, we should. That is called being civilized.

I used to have the same belief that veganism/vegetarianism is superior, but then I thought about it some more and realized that if we didn't eat meat those animals wouldn't be alive to begin with. Eventually we'll be able to make synthetic meat anyway so for the time being I don't think bringing animals into the world and then taking them away is all that bad.

No one knows what it is like to be a cow regardless of conditions. Some humans have endured equally horrible hardships in their lives and relatively few of them decide that death would be preferable. Also, even if they decide that, I'm not convinced that all but the most horrendous of lives are worse than never existing at all.

Finally, if factory farm conditions are the issue, then the solution is to work to improve living conditions for factory farm animals. That I would support 100%.

While I agree 100% about improving living conditions, it is silly to imply that animals might not mind factory farming conditions. The animals show avoidance behaviors and it is pretty clear that they are experiencing pain. Would be nice to think otherwise, but it is definitely not the case.

That is naturally true. Eating meat had natural, evolutionary benefits that contributed to our survival and prosperity as a species.

The argument they like to make is that, now that we can, we should stop eating meat because it's immoral to cause harm to other creatures. I guess that makes sense if you want to apply a moral framework we use for human society to the animals we eat.

Personally, I don't do that.

analyzing his words. it is morally superior to only eat green.
since otherwise we are killing a living being for our sustenance.

thats the extent of moraly superior.

however, plants also feel, and are living creatures. just because they dont show anything doesnt mean they dont feel.

so you wanna save any lives? literally kill yourself by starving to death.
or live a life of eating supplements or IV tubes.

I didn't imply that they don't mind factory farming conditions. I'm just saying that it doesn't seem likely to me that they would prefer death/non-existence compared to typical factory conditions.

I think it's common sense that they're not living lives of pure agony either. Not even in the worst of conditions. Whether or not the good outweighs the bad is up for debate but again, I'm not convinced that average factory conditions are preferable to death.

Ok, I hate the stupid propaganda films that the animal rights activists put out, but you should look into some non-biased footage of factory farms. It is pretty disgusting. There is no joy to be had in that sort of existence.

I haven't put a great deal of effort into trying to find a non-biased accounts of farm practices, but from what I can tell there are at least good and bad farms. This goes back to what I said earlier, to me the solution isn't to stop eating meat, it's to push for more higher animal welfare standards in farms.
