I like how Mushroom Kingdom has an achievement list and gives you a moon for each one and gives you a ton upfront for any achievements you already completed

if that's how Nintendo wants to do achievements that's fine with me.

You can buy moons eventually, so you max out at 999 but there are significantly fewer actually hidden.

the prize for 999 moons is a giant hat gets put on top of peach's castle and if you climb to the top of that you get a firework celebration

now to beat the final boss again and get the true ending
