Sometimes, its a small clue that leads to the conclusion that a project has been abandoned. Following the disappointing box office returns for the rebooted movie this year - $142m worldwide the planned multitude of sequels to the Power Rangers movie were in doubt. Had the movie hit big, Saban had aggressive plans for the big screen franchise.

But now Movieweb has spotted that Saban has opted not to renew the trademark on the Power Rangers movie series logo. A small, but probably quite significant thing, but along with the fact that theres been no progress or announcement about a second film, it looks like the current iteration of big screen Power Rangers is done. Sure, they could design and register another logo, but the likelihood is that theyd keep the branding and identity were they going for a direct sequel.

A couple days old but still.

That's actually a shame, even though that movie definitely had flaws it was actually way better than I thought it would be because I went into that movie expecting it to be trash since I'm a huge Power Rangers fan and I was pleasantly surprised. Also I stand by my thought that the sequel had potential to be way better since they won't have to focus on the origin story and since it would have Tommy and probably Lord Zedd.

I haven't seen the Power Rangers movie, I haven't watched any incarnation of Power Rangers in 22 years, but I know I could have made a better and more faithful adaptation than that one.

The only thing that I really disliked were the costumes, I still think that they were ugly.

But once you get over that I actually really like the direction that they went with the movie in the beginning, it was kind of like Chronicle mixed with Breakfast Club lol and I thought that was a great direction to go in. The flaws in the movie started happening after the backstories and stuff though.

It was a weird film. The character development was way better than it had any right to be. The opening scene was incredible, showcasing Power Rangers lore. The movie somehow got way worse when they finally morphed and got into the Zords.

What should have been the worst part was actually pretty good and took up 3/4 of the screentime. What should have been the best was actually the worst. Seriously, they morphed then fought for like 30 seconds before hopping into their Zords.

This movie was like 80% origin story when it needed to be more like 30-40% origin story. The part where they fought in their suits and hopped into their Zords was just so poorly done.

We also got a weird joke about jerking off a cow at the start.

This movie spent way too much time trying to be something other than a Power Ranger film. It should have just embraced being a PR film.

That's a shame, I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would.

A sequel was unlikely as soon as the first movie was announced. It was always going to be a flop, especially when they simply refused to make it an actual Power Rangers movie.

I pretty much completely agree with everything you said except I don't think it's a bad thing that they spent so much time on the origin story, you know? I feel like the way they did it would have been fine if the end was better since it was leading up to them morphin so much. And that's also why I think a sequel would have been stronger since they wouldn't have to focus on the origin anymore but I definitely welcomed it since it was done well.

But its kind of funny because leading up to the movie they did that complete Power Rangers series marathon on Twitch and pretty much everyone in the chat would agree that the best episode of any season was the episodes where they pretty much embraced how silly the actual concept of Power Rangers actually was, you know? And that's because it is silly and we all know that but we still like Power Rangers anyway because its cool lol.

I think that a different approach that they could have went would be an approach that the movie doesn't take itself so seriously, obviously the reason why the Power Rangers movie came to be was obviously a bit of nostalgia as well as them trying to take advantage of how popular Super Hero movies are right now, and from the Iron Man rip-off costumes to especially the whole last 1/4th of the movie it was trying to be a super hero movie and like you said that's when the quality started to fall off. I think an approach like the Deadpool movie, a Super Hero movie that doesn't take itself entirely too seriously would have worked way better for Power Ranger.

It did not make a profit. The budget listed online doesn't include marketing. Also consider the studio only gets a fraction of the box office intake, further boosting the number they needed to meet to break even.

What a shame, it was a good movie, but a terrible Power Rangers movie. I mean the plot and story is bland and cliched, but so was the source material. Like I can't believe when I say this, but most of them had depth that I ended up caring for the characters. I mean seriously, the actor for the blue rangers is going to go places because he was the best thing in the whole movie that made it more fun that it should've been. My biggest complaint was that it tried to hard to remove itself from the source material that it ended up being a bad Power Rangers movie. How the hell can you sell toys when they fight in their suits and zords in the last 15 minutes of the film? Not to mention the CGI was just whatever and the fight scenes looked like any other CGI heavy movie.

I firmly believed that if it didn't try to remove itself from the source material, it might've done better at the BO. Though I think what ultimately it was China that could've saved it from being a bomb, but it was DOA when they released it the same weekend as GotG2.

Yeah if there really isn't anymore Power Ranger movies I atleast want to see the Blue Ranger doing things because he's a great actor.

The Red Ranger is apparently in Stranger Things season 2
