I just finished it myself (started watching at 8:30pm last night lol). I loved it a lot overall, though I'm really disappointed with ah, where Bob led. When we first saw him I made a joke about Bob dying first, thinking similar to Barb. And I mean I wasn't wrong, but I also didn't expect to see him through the whole season, grow to love him, and get my heart punted when he gets an insanely shitty gang mauling.

Also I feel the writers completely missed the mark with Billy. He got way too much screentime and it was more annoying than anything else with where his character led (that is to say, absolutely fucking nowhere but as the random asshole racist step-brother lol). He'll likely get proper developing in season 3.

I loved the kids, including the new addition of Max. I continue loving the hell out of Steve (he deserves better). Nancy and Jonathan are like, the Boring Duo at this point. Hope we see more of Doctor Owens, and I look forward to seeing where the writers take the Mind Flayer, who honestly just scares the hell out of me. Thing is freaky as fuck. And I'm dying to know if Brenner is alive or dead. Really hinted at him being alive, both in the show and by writer. Also give Kali a point. I liked that Eleven was exploring her background, but good lord are they taking the whole Kali thing somewhere or not?

I loved the season overall, and they need to give poor Will a break for season 3 lol.

My problems with the season were minimal and yeah, most of it I can see as set up for season 3 aside from Billy. he still could have been handled better instead of being basically a waste of screen time. Him flirting with Mike's mom was 10/10 though.

EDIT: Is season 3 out yet? I'm dying over here. ;(

Dustin was incredible this season, as was Hop. The arguments with El were intense and a definite high point of the season. Seeing Steve evolve into the role of a mentor was pretty cool, and his acting was top notch as well.

The "Dart" shit got way too "mogwai"-ish and hammy. Max and Billy were both completely flat and under-utilized; the only real highlight there was the scene with Billy's father, and even then, it would have been far more effective if they actually gave us a reason to give a shit about him or his motivations. To quote another season recap, "it felt like the writers threw a mullet at a fast car and that was that." Jonathan x Nancy romance has been built up to across both seasons, so seeing that come together fully was nice, however I'm worried about what's left to be done with the characters. Too often when a show builds up a relationship like that, the writers seem to be at a loss for the characters after the "big reveal" or whatever. Mike was pretty drab this season compared to S1; again, like Max or The Cool Guy I Wanna Be When I Grow Up! , I found it hard to really give a shit what he was up to. He spent the whole season either being a dick to everyone else or being an extra in the background of Will scenes. The reunion with El was still really sweet and satisfying, despite his turd writing this time around.

The shit with Kali and her gaggle of juggalo-pandering suicide squad dweebs was just fucking unbearable and the lone irredeemably terrible aspect of this season. They were cheesy as shit and pretty poorly acted.

I just complained a lot but that's only because it's easier to voice specific problems I had than the overwhelming feeling of "HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT HOLYSHITHOLYSHIT" I've had for the past ~9 hours. Season 2 was pretty good and I'm excited/already dying for S3.

Yeah, Billy's scene with his dad and his scene with Mike's mom were his two best scenes (and Dacre's acting was amazing in both) but...his character itself felt so pointless in the show overall that it doesn't really make up for that. I kept expecting to learn more about him, or why he hated Max so much, but...nothing. He's just a douche.

But here's hoping for season 3.

Bob should've just kept running. It was cliche.

This is what I don't get. Due to the car scene, with him going, "Whose fault is it that we're here?!" to Max, who answers, "Yours." That led to him getting pissed and yelling in her face and implying it was her fault, but that's never built on later. I figured he just has anger issues and wants to blame someone, so he blames Max for having a dad that their parents want to move away from? *shrug*

I liked Billy a lot tbh. I bet he was only on screen for like 20 minutes in the whole 9 eps, not sure why people had beef. He played the cool 80's kid so well. He'll probably get some better development next season assuming his family stays in town.

Bob was a great addition as well. Really grew to love him.

Yeah this is what I mean. There was plenty of room for development without making him Steve 2 but instead they just did nothing with him.

Felt really unsatisfying imo. He was built up as an irredeemable, hateful, racist, psycho(he was going to kill the kids on a whim). Then the only punishment he got was a slap, and getting tranquilized. If they want to continue his character in another season, he should've at least been attacked by a monster, and just lose his mind because of it.

Billy was textbook "bully with a bad home life." This was clear from his early scenes with Max. And no, he wasn't going to kill the kids with his car lol.

Plus he offered Steve Basketball advice! I think deep down he's probably fine. Max's relationship with Lucas will help him get over his racism or something too.

Or he'll die.

There's no indication that his home life is actually that bad. He seems free to leave, and do as he pleases with almost no consequences to his actions. The dad is only in a single scene, and in that scene he's frustrated and upset that his other child is missing, and Billy straight up disrespects both his parents at that point. It certainly didn't feel like abuse, rather it felt more like a heat of the moment reaction(aside from the respect talk, which he clearly needs).

If the step dad was really the problem, wouldn't that make Max the one who should have a problem with it? She's apparently fine with him, and is only upset because of Billy mistreating her for no reason, and being moved to a new town.

Brah, did you see the mom cowering when the dad was talking to Billy? Even telling him "it's ok Neil" bc she was trying to diffuse, knowing he was about to get violent. That's abusive household, plain and simple. They don't have to come out and slap you with the implication (tho Neil literally comes out and slaps Billy so it's still super obvious >_>)

Bad dad also dropped a gay slur pretty readily, was surprised we didn't hear an n-word. Kids like Billy don't grow up hateful, they learn to hate from shitty abusive parents.

Let alone how Billy reacted, did you see how the mom reacted back in the doorway? Man's not a good one, and we didn't see Max interact with her step-dad at all, or even refer to him iirc.

Honestly, it seemed less like cowering, and more like she was just a passive person who doesn't like confrontations. If they wanted to set up the dad as a villain, it should e been referenced more than a single scene of Billy causing a rather big problem, and getting slapped once because of it. They could've had Max say something along lines of "if you think he's bad, you don't want to meet his father." or something. Just throwing in a parental figure out of the blue, who simply corrects Billy's unhinged behavior in a single scene, isn't enough to excuse his previous behavior.

Max puts all the blame squarely on Billy, and throughout the season, it's Billy we see causing everyone problems. The only explanation we get from Max is that Billy is upset that his dad remarried. Which indicates this is not his normal behavior, but that he became this way after their parents married.

Edit: To clarify, I'm not saying the dad isn't abusive, or will be a villain. I'm just saying the scene we got didn't do an adequate job explaining Billy's previous behavior. If it was trying to play him off as the victim, it failed completely, especially as he simply left to continue causing the same problems he had been.

Whatever. I'm just saying the payoff didn't live up to the buildup, especially when just a single scene of some mild "abuse" is supposed to reverse our view of who was the most villainous human this season.
