I've been far more civil than you. If anyone's throwing a tantrum, it's you. All I'm doing is presenting facts, and you reply with personal attacks and insults, then get butthurt when I send them back your way. Thew truly ironic thing is that you don't see that these "insults" more accurately describe you than they do anyone else in this topic. Try getting a life. If it really triggers you this much that someone is "wrong" about video game sprites, you may want to take a day or two away from the internet.

Yeah, you are truly delusional. What facts have you presented? List them. Practically everything you've posted is an intentional misinterpretation to bullshit me. And I haven't insulted you, I've objectively described and criticized your behavior. I wouldn't be talking about triggered seeing how you spent so much effort and time to use insane troll logic in an attempt to "win" even though anybody can see that you're wrong and you can't handle being wrong.

Hino: During development of Super Mario Maker, we began to wonder why Mario's hand moves when Yoshi sticks out its tongue in Super Mario World. Many people thought Mario was pointing forward and saying, "Go!" and that's why Yoshi sticks out its tongue.

But that isn't so?
Hino: Actually, we did the animation with the idea that Mario is hitting Yoshi on the head and Yoshi is sticking out its tongue in surprise.

Oh, really? (laughs)
Hino: There's even a bonk! sound. (laughs) But we thought people would feel sorry for Yoshi, so we decided to pass it off as Mario saying, "Go!" (laughs)

The animation and sound were completed. Only the official story was changed. The animation, according to Hino, depicts Mario punching Yoshi. Word. Of. God.

It's just like a director of a movie mentioning something that was originally planned for a character, but left out. Just because they originally had other plans for that character, it doesn't mean they're a part of the finished product.

With the exception of competitive games like Mario Kart and Smash Bros., there's never been a time when Mario has struck Yoshi to get him to do something.

Mario's hand misses in the sprites.

Maybe he's pulling the interviewer's tail. Maybe he forgot that they modified the sprites slightly. Or maybe the miss is unintentional and a consequence of the new technology. But the hand goes past Yoshi, not into the back of his head.

In any event, the hand misses and the official explanation is that he's telling Yoshi to go. What was originally intended is just trivia. It's like saying Yoshi is a Koopa because he was originally conceived as one.

Changing the explanation of the action = changing the action.

The fist doesn't connect. Maybe he was meant to strike Yoshi on the cheek, but that's not evident without the bop noise. Yoshi doesn't wince. He doesn't react. He simply sticks his tongue out.

You can cling to their original intent as much as you like, but that doesn't mean that he's striking Yoshi. Canonically, he isn't.

And, at the risk of sounding redundant, his fist is never shown to actually connect.

I can't really read the full interview right now, so I'm not translating this with full context. I use "we" only because I assume the speaker is referring to the team, and not speaking as a single animator/designer. Likewise, though the kanji does refer to drawn pictures, that doesn't mean it can't be referring to animation, as that character can be used to talk about frames of animation. Still, it could also be referring to some piece of concept art. Again, I would need to read the full interview for context.

I went through the thread, and I just want to clarify a couple things mentioned here.

First, what Hino was talking about in that first answer was that the development team for Mario Maker was confused about that animation from Super Mario World. Remember, it's a very old game, so a lot of the people working on Mario Maker didn't work on it. The translation for that particular answer was a little sloppy, as it makes it sound like Hino is including himself among the people confused by the animation. In the original Japanese, he basically just says that it became a topic of discussion among the team.

Second, outside of some suffixes for pronouns and living things, there is no singular/plural distinction in the Japanese language.
