Maybe if you decided to marathon the series, by the time you get to U, it would definitely feel a little tiring, but NSMBU is definitely at least the 2nd best.

The only reason Wii is any good is if you have a few buddies to play with.

You're a good guy, GREAT guy @PiOverlord but I think the problem with Wii U was that by the time it came out the formula for the series had become so stale most people didn't care about the minor improves NSMB Wii U brought to the table. Myself being one of those people.

It IS better than the Wii version, but I think most people feel the Wii version was peak fun for the series. U is a weird example of a game being better than it's predecessors but not as fun.

NSMBU is the only one I played and I thought it was great. Shame that it felt so similar to the others. The level design is so damn good.

Honestly, it isn't so much about the formula as it is the artstyle I think. If each NSMB game had a different artstyle, I think 2 and U would have been much better received.

I still want a 2D Mario Switch game, whether that is a NSMB Switch (it has 5 years since NSMBU came out, I wouldn't mind another NSMB game at this point) or a different direction.

None of the NSMB games had any challenge. I guess the first one gave you some grief if you GO'ed, but even that wasn't hard.

I really liked DS, as I love the distinct bosses, and there are some great levels. NSMB2 wasn't bad, I even completed the 9,999,999 coin challenge (and when I was at 8 million coins the first time, my cartridge popped out, and I was back at 3.4 million coins, but for whatever reason, I just did it again).

I don't like the Wii one because of the way you need to shake the stupid thing to get that little twirl that gives you more distance (Iunno what it's called).

Wii U I've finished completely, I need to do Luigi's side as well sometime.

I wanted to mention that, are you talking about the little wiimote waggle?!? If so, the sensitivity is a shame as the wiimote is actually a pretty good 2D Mario controller if not for that to me.

I 100'ed NSMBU (first 100% for a 2D Mario game), and did a lot of NSLU. Both are really fun. Got the physical copy of NSLU too.

I agree, and yeah that thing. I wish they just allowed you to map it to a button, I detest motion controls though.

Definitely, the waggle killed me so many times just by the tiniest movement.

ok so problems with U

1. The game was rushed out to be a Wii U launch title and it shows.
2. Still can't be fucking arsed to change up the roster. Nobody wants 1 toad let alone 2 toads.
3. No "2 player" (selecting multiplayer designates one dude to be the pad tap monkey, so if you want to jump around with Mario and Luigi you needed 3 players)
4. The squirrel power up was a shitty propeller hat (no real imagination on the powerup)
