The Conservative party in Sweden has been doing poorly this term (2014-2018) but changing their leader a month ago has brought back many voters who left them for either the Nationalists or for the Neoliberals. In a poll released today they grow from 16% to 22% while the Nationalists drop from 18% to 15% and the Neolibs drop from 13% to 10%. This confirm the theory that the various Right-wing parties have trouble winning over new independents and rather feed on each other.

The Socialdemocrats grow too, from 29% to 30%.

The Far-Left remain on 7%, the Liberals remain on 6%, the Greens remain on 4% and the Christian Democrats remain below the 4% threshold on 3%.

It is true that we had too lax immigration laws but the total collapse of the country is such a silly fake news agenda. The Swedish economy is almost doing too well right now - it might overheat rather than go cold. And the Socialdemocrats implemented tough immigration laws and border controls two years ago which have had a positive effect. There are issues to deal with just like in all countries but the reality is that Sweden is doing extremely well overall.

Oh I know this. It always makes me laugh when I hear hoards of people in this country talking about how awful various areas in Europe are becoming due to the refugee crisis, which albeit has it's share of issues, yet when I speak to people who actually live over there they always point to it being more nuanced than the bullshit outrage headlines make it appear to be. I don't doubt that they have their share of problems but I'd take the word of people actually in the country, on both sides, over some dumbasses who aren't even from it.

It gives you credit that you want the nuanced picture rather than the false or exaggerated stories made for clicks or to push an agenda. Far-Right American sites allegedly pay young Eastern European adults to write fake stories.

Take this real example.

The real story: Swedish man hangs so many Christmas ornaments on a town owned street light so it almost falls over. Local authorities in the town take down the ornaments.

The U.S. Far-Right version: Sweden ban Christmas decorations nationwide to avoid offending immigrants!

Another poll released this morning show slightly different numbers but a similar outlook with the exception that the Greens are also below the parlamentary threshold in this poll. So the question is if we will still have 8 parties in Riksdagen after September 2018 or maybe just 7 or 6?

29.7% - Socialdemocrats
19.4% - Conservatives
16.8% - Nationalists
11.2% - Neoliberals
7.4% - Far Left
5.1% - Liberals
3.7% - Greens
3.4% - Christian Democrats

This is a quick summary of the parties:

The Cons are very focused on economical issues. They want lots of tax cuts, weaker social safety nets, more privatization. They are quite corporatist. They are also huge Royalists - they are doing all they can to prevent even a referendum on the issue from taking place.

Nationalists focus on immigration as their key area. Their goal is a Sweden with minimal non-Nordic immigration. Two clear differences between them and the Cons are NATO- and EU-membership (Nationalists want us to leave the EU and not join NATO while the Cons want us to remain in the EU and also join NATO). The Nationalists want strong social safety nets for native Swedes so that is another difference between them and the Cons who want weaker social security.

The ChristDems are very much about social issues. They have opposed every pro-LGBT bill ever in Riksdagen since they got seats in the 80s, they want tougher abortion laws and simply a country based on Christian morals. They are huge supporters of extensive elderly care though and are less corporate friendly than the Cons.
