Do you think it's stupid to have an all male panel at a women's empowerment event?

A New Jersey magazine owned by women has cancelled it's own women's empowerment event after outrage because all of main speakers were ALL MEN!!

SJ Magazine aid it believe it's "helpful when everyone is part of the conversation on women's empowerment and feminism. It was never our intention to offend anyone"

The event was entitled "Women in business. A Man's point of view"

One of the men was New Jersey Demcrat Lou Greenwald who withdrew from it and said "I was asked to participate on a panel for an issue i care deeply about. As a son of watching my mother break the glass ceiling in politics and as a father of 2 daughter, i have a passion for the pursuit of equality. I offered my seat instead to someone who can bring a more diverse and inclusive point of view on this critical issue"

It also included ESPN Nationional Correspondent Sal Paolantonio, Rown University President Ali Houshmand and Virtua President/CEO Richard P Miller

The Empowerment Series is one of the magazine's annual event that aims to bring influential decision makers, business leaders and upcoming movers and shakers of South Jersey.

Do you think it was stupid to have all male panel at a women's empowerment event? let's see what people think

Given that it's exactly what it says in the title, I'm not sure what the issue is. After all, it'd be silly if a woman was trying to push something as a man's point of view.

I don't see a problem with it. Kind of an oddity, which makes me think that it was more the lack of interest/negative interest than any kind of perceived threat. The idea was pitched, the public said no, such is life. Find a better angle for your next show.

Same, seems like lack of interest, despite the good intentions.

There's also probably some irony in saluting diversity and inclusivity while shutting men out of the conversation, especially since men are vastly underrepresented in this arena.

I can't imagine that's what they had in mind when they created the event, it's a bit tone deaf.

It's all white people too, but they didn't point that out. Clearly they didn't pass the intersectional purity test either, those racists.

Yes, for two reasons: they won't quite "get it" in terms of issues that matter to women and the kinds of women that would attend probably don't care what the men say regardless of how helpful their speeches may be.

Exactly what I was thinking. It defeats the purpose of having a man's POV on the matter if the panel were female.
