35 y/o Kelly Clarkson has admitted that she considered SUICIDE after Sony Music Bosses forced her to lose WEIGHT after she won American Idol and was at the height of her music career!!

She said the pressure to be thin for the sake of her career made her "miserabale" and that when she was really skinny, she wanted to kill herself!!

She battled an eating disorder in high school and was in a "very dark time" in her music career and said "I thought the only way out was quitting. I, like, wrecked my knees and my feet because all i would do is put in headphones and run. I was at the gym all the time"...

Kelly has a 3 y/o daughter, River Rose and 18 month old son, Remington Alexander who says she's no longer obsessed with her weight and said that pepole are born skinny and with great metabolism..but not her, she wished she had better metabolism. She just wants to be the way she is.

Kelly recently left Sony and is now with Warner Brothers Music who says she can't be happier since.

Do you think Kelly would have been successful if she was fat in the beginning of her career?

The thing is great music sells. Kelly makes great music. So if she had been Adele before there was Adele...

Also, it's pretty common knowledge that Clive Davis was an asshole to her and made her cry on several occasions, so this does not surprise me. Was happy she ditched him.

kelly clarkson didn't make as much of an impact with her first album as adele did with her first album, though.

it's an interesting question. clarkson was the first winner of american idol, so obviously her debut album would have sold like crazy no matter her weight. but would she have been able to stay in the spotlight if she'd been fat? who knows.

It's true that Thankful is one of her weaker albums and it wasn't until Breakaway that she became a star.

I don't remember hearing about Adele much until her second album, however. Only Chasing Pavements once or twice. Based on what you're saying, I'm guessing it was a different story in Europe. I likened the two for the reason that it took until the second album to rake in millions, but I'm just thinking with #AmericanLogic.

oh yeah, i didn't realize that i looked at this from a european perspective and that adele's debut may not have been as big of a deal overseas.

but yeah, make you feel my love and chasing pavements were both huge in my country - the former peaked at #1 and the latter at #3 in our top 40. cold shoulder was played a lot too. never heard hometown glory (the first single) on the radio, though. (i also remember hearing right as rain a lot for some reason - she didn't even release that one as a single!)

edit: oh duh, i actually heard hometown glory on the radio all the time. just didn't associate that title with that song. (according to wikipedia it didn't even make our top 40, though.)

Yeah, Chasing Pavements only made it to #21 here. Nothing else from her first album charted in the States. The most-recognized versions of Make You Feel My Love here remain Bob Dylan and Garth Brooks.

Then Rolling in the Deep was released and it was the biggest hit of the year, making Adele a household name. I heard all four singles from 21 all the freakin' time (and still do), and now I hear the 25 singles regularly.

So the comparison between Adele and a less fit Kelly Clarkson is more spot-on in the US. If Kelly still makes Breakaway and it's just as good as it ultimately was, her weight doesn't matter. She still becomes a star with an album that awesome.

I also doubt that Kelly's first album made any significant splash in Europe, similar to how Adele's first album wasn't anything significant here. That said, looking at Wikipedia, Kelly's first international single (Miss Independent) hit #9 in the Netherlands (IIRC, that's where you're from), the same as the title track of Breakaway.

yes, that's where i'm from.

yeah, miss independent was big here. she released that single just after winning so it was probably big in most places (though according to wikipedia it didn't even chart in canada... that's weird).

but the other two singles from the album weren't hits here. low didn't even chart here and the trouble with love is only made #32.
