Given that it portrays a sex change -- rather than just a gender change -- and portrays it as a curse that they're trying to get rid of, there's probably a pretty good reason why it doesn't come up.

Never seen the anime, but enjoyed what little I read of the manga. And I also greatly enjoyed Inuyasha at first... then liked it... then just stopped caring as it increasingly became about Naraku.

That's 'cuz the anime had to catch up to the manga and then the plot changed, so there's literally 2 seasons of filler

tbh, I'm not sure that I've followed any really long-running anime to its end. Usually there's a break of some kind and I don't come back, or I just lose interest.
