Stalin wouldve been happy for an armistice in 1943, you can opt to cool it with the whole genocide thing and try to sweep it under the rug, and then try to broker a peace deal while it still looks like youre winning. Then during peace time you finish your orbital death ray - which couldve probably been done in the 50s. The only thing is that you'd still be responsible for everything he did up to the point he takes control, so it'd probably be a horrible experience.
