I think I'll name it "something" of the day, and I just mess around coding things for it. I need to pick a domain name in the meantime.

I'll probably use it to host my games and coding projects too, so it has to be somewhat ambiguous.

Edid: oh, and suggest names pls

My first years on the internet, I went to www.food.net

for the sole fact that I liked food as a kid.

It was just a white page that said "I like to eat I like to eat I like to eat apples and bananas"

To this day it still isnt a very interesting site

I like it. If it doesn't cost $2000 I'll go for that.

Zeus of the Day. Every day a new Zeus! Best of all, the domain name will probably be next to worthless so you won't have to pay much.

Or you could pick a random animal. How about Owloftheday? Everybody loves owls. Well, except small rodents.

Kind of figured that'd be costly.

Haha, I've got a knack for nabbing really cool names on the internet.

I just don't think I can share it until I buy it because I would be miffed if a lurker took my domain. Or Ziggi.

Look at my website. I still need to figure out how to make pollofthe.pizza work by itself without the /index.html stuff.

First I was using GoDaddy, then I went to freenom for the DNS and iPage for the hosting.

Can anyone confirm this link works and takes them to a small minigame? For some reason it works on my desktop but won't load on my phone.

Yeah I keep getting the same forbidden error everyone else is getting. It works on my computer but not my tablet. I have the permissions set to 755 for every folder and file I'm trying to access but it just isn't doing anything.

yeah forbidden

what are you hosting it on? "permissions set to 755" must mean linux, so I guess apache?

I don't know much linux and even less apache, but you probably need to configure httpd.conf. reading about it, it defaults to 'deny from all'. you can change it to 'allow from all', though that's not necessarily the most secure approach. (you might need to restart the httpd service when you make this change.)

other than that, still assuming you're on apache, you'd need to read up on the specifics of apache authentication and authorization. you'd probably want anonymous authentication but you should still be able to configure specific authorization for each folder in the site directory.

Ok, so I figured out what was wrong and it really wasn't anything wrong that I did.

Apparently having the domain suffix .pizza was breaking random things without any pattern. Disabling it and using ipage's provided "ipage.com" fixed the problem.

Oh well. $20 down the toilet, but things work, and that's the important thing.

https://pollofthepizza.ipage.com

Not as cool, oh well. Now on to learning HTML and making my site.

you probably don't get your own public IP address and they use the domain name that you're resolving from to determine which website to load. so even though pollofthepizza.ipage.com resolves to 66.96.147.96, that is not really where your site is, and if you try accessing your site from that address directly, or from a different domain address, you get the forbidden message since you're attempting to access their webserver directly.
