I was thinking the same thing.
Was attempted murder just #bullythings back in the 80's?

The knife makes very litte sense in the context of the 80s, definitely fits more in the 50s original setting.

I carried a pocket knife around in middle school. Definitely got threatened with a baseball bat by a bully while my friends stood around with knives behind their backs just in case he actually swung.

Have you seen the movie Three o'clock high? If you haven't, check it out. The fight at the end was awesome and there's funny moments throughout the movie

Derry isn't exactly the standard 50s or 80s small town.

And idk if the new movie adapted it or not, but in the book there's another kid who scares the shit out of everyone who isn't Henry because he has legit soon-to-be-a-serial-killer tendencies, like locking animals in junkyard refrigerators.

TV and movies always have totally realistic situations and people that act in a realistic, relateable manner. Of course bullies used knives back in the 80s.

Well, crime has steadily decreased since the 80s so that's likely correct.

It's honestly not that unrealistic. Boys are pretty violent. Middle school boys especially so.
