Mario is a portly little man who can jump high. Bowser is an armored turtle dragon man with sharp claws, spikes, and can breathe fire. The only time Bowser beat Mario was when he was invincible.

Bowser would have one in pretty much all the Mario games if he haf not stupidly done something stupid like putting an axe at the end of the bridge he dances on, making the floor of bricks that break when he lands on them, throwing toys out of his copter at Mario, using bombs, etc etc.
