She said she told the studio or something and won a modest settlement. But rape is a big time crime. Why did she not call the cops right then and there, do you think?

Because she took a $100k settlement instead and then expected Ben Affleck to call the cops for her.

I just wonder why she didn't call the cops, but now she got a lot to talk about. If a crime is committed against you, especially this serious in nature, you should call the cops. I know it sucks. I understand reluctance. But you gotta do it. And I just don't like it when a big crime of this nature has been committed , the cops weren't called, and now after a million other women come forward, she's ready to talk. Maybe had she called the cops, that could have stopped more assaults.

Because it's a dumb topic and a dumb question.

She was vulnerable and afraid. And on top of that was given a cash settlement with a non-disclosure agreement to keep her mouth shut.

If she tried to call the cops it would be the end of her career and likely the case would have go no-where.

Good example: If you look up how to bring moderator abuse to attention on this site you'll be taken to a post from Error telling you to PM him.

Now can you imagine a new user who Error is abusing contacting Error and going "I think you're abusing me and need to investigate yourself" Well Error would conduct a 2 second investigation where he finds himself perfect in every way and then suspends the new user.

And that's on a goofy message board over something not serious. Now imagine it was deeply serious and your actual life.

Even when she went public NOW with the Internet and a lot more support + fame than she had in 1997, Twitter tried to take her down.

What exactly do you think would have happened if she tried to go to the cops? Speaking now rationally as a non-hurt man in 2017, forget a scared emotional woman in 1997

Now in 2017 there is social media, there is a way to communicate to a mass audience, there are other people finding their feet and coming out and women have a louder voice.

She's also richer and more successful. Less to lose + actual support makes all the difference in the world.

It should be obvious

IMO, she should have called the cops. That's all I'm saying. How many women might have been spared if this guy got convicted on the assault on her.

Chances are zero.

And chances are he wouldn't have been convicted. Rich powerful people are protected.

You get guys who have abused dozen of children and we only find out after they die.

Yeah, just look at the scandal with the BBC with Jimmy Savile and others - while many were convicted, it is all too similar to what is going in Hollywood seemingly with those in power getting away with it as no one wants to give up their cash cows, and those abused have no support or ways to get people to actually believe them even if they did come forth.

And it's just a discussion. I don't know the woman. I'm just saying that is odd to me. It's a current event. I'm entitled to my perspective, you to yours. Because many are scared no one will believe them and they will ruin their careers for no actual gain. Because many are traumatised and just want to forget all about it and not have to relive it all through court proceedings and media hounding.

In this case basically everyone knew, the police knew and even grabbed video and photo evidence of Weinstein doing it red handed and prepared a case for legal action, and still nothing came of it because the legal system decided not to press charges.

What message does that send to any woman in Rose's position back in 1997? The network covers it up, the state would rather stay silent than do it's job, and you're left alone having no one to support you and very likely sacrificing your career on a public scandal that everyone already knows about but doesn't care enough to prosecute.

None, because he was rich and powerful and would shut down any investigations into his actions.

If that happened to someone close to me, you best believe I'll call the cops or I'll feel compelled to give out some vigilante justice.
And I know they have power, but law is law. They're not the freaking Illuminati. He's being brought down now. No one is covering up anything now. Why not strike when the iron is hot. 'Cause their current strategy is working out splendidly, right? And Rose is a huge success for keeping her mouth shut, right?
