A lot depends on your body weight as well. I bench 135, but I'm only 150 pounds at 5'11. Super skinny.

Someone that's like 200 pounds can bench that much easier.

This is why 135 means different things to different people. For a person with average body weight and normally-sized arms, 135 is not impressive.

However, if you're skinny and have long, thin arms, 135 is significantly harder.

Yeah I've heard that being tall and skinny with long arms makes it harder to bench press. It's why guys like Kevin Durant have problems benching a lot of weight

I do not believe the majority of GF can bench 135 10+ times. Lot of liars around here.

Really? Is 135 considered a lot? I started pretty weak and I could do some reps of 135.

Yes, 135 is a lot for people who don't lift. It is terribly low for power lifters, but I believe many people either overestimate what they are capable or underestimate lifting weights that approach our own body weight.

I know I could do a few reps of that in high school. And I'm much stronger now than I was in high school.

Don't lift though.

Even accounting for surgery and my not lifting since the initial injury, I figure it wouldn't be too hard. Does depend on how my back would handle being on the bench, though.

Range of motion plays into it more than your weight. It just so happens taller people weigh more in general. If you are lanky you won't be able to move as much weight as someone squatty, even though your bodies are doing the same amount of work.

I was looking at this and thinking you were all crazy until I realised you were doing it in lbs.

Where I live we do it all in kg. 135kg bench presses are not something I would attempt.

Wot

CE is stronger then I thought

CE has no clue what they can actually lift and guessed way high. I'd bet at least 75% of the 19 who voted more than ten reps would barely 1 Rep max it.

QFT.

135 for 10 reps isn't a lot, and you can get to that point pretty easily with a bit of work, but it's definitely more than most people can do. I think most of you who voted you can do 10+ at 135 could probably do it at least once, but not ten times. I think most of you just said "yeah I could probably do that" despite not knowing.

Also, if it's been more than a couple months since you last did it, you probably can't do it now.

That's...ridiculously low. Most people can do that. Last time I tried, I maxed at 60 reps of it, but I'm not sure how I'd do now. Probably 45 or 50.

Who the fuck reps 135 fifty times?

Its called a burn out set or doing reps to failure. Plenty of people do low weight sets to failure.

Please stop talking about weight lifting if you obviously do not lift weights.

@MrDrMan

Lol. I lift. Just don't do asinine shit like lift baby weight for a lot of reps like a fucking soccer mom. Based on how much you're defending this shitty lifting style I definitely know I could outlift you.

I have no idea anymore. My max in highschool was 185lbs when I weighed 150lbs. It's now 12 years later and I haven't benched in at least 8. I weigh 175lbs now so I'd imagine that I could bench more if I actually tried.

I've been lifting several times a week for about 3 years now, including a dedicated chest day at least once a week, and I don't think I can bench 10 reps @ 135lbs. Maybe about 3 or 4 reps. I am skinny and have long limbs, though. When I first started benching, I couldn't even bench 100 lbs once lol.

You should be way past where you are now if you've been lifting for 3 years. The fact that you're still skinny makes me think you're just fucking around with your diet. If your diet is bad enough it can negate almost all of your lifting progress.

People go high weight low reps to build strength.
People go low weight high reps to build size/muscle.

The most Ive done is 260 but I havent done strength training in years. I honestly havent worked out in months. If you cant out lift me then youre not very strong.

I eat a lot. I eat a very wide variety of foods. I eat lots of protein, and I take protein supplements. I dunno man...my muscles have gotten bigger, including my chest.

I don't go hardcore, though. I do a lot of endurance lifting. And one of my worst habits is that I often times lift while I'm hungry and haven't eaten in a good while.

Check out /r/fitness if you want to progress faster, they've got a lot of good info. But basically it's a lot easier to set weight goals and weigh yourself each day to ensure you're weight is trending in the right direction at the right pace. That plus bulk/cut cycles and a good program will get you there faster.

This is more of a strength-based plan than an endurance-based one, but you can work in both.

Basically is your goal not to be skinny? Then you can do that in a lot shorter than 3 years with a good plan.

Yeah. A lot of people probably just either don't lift and think "that doesn't look that heavy" OR they lifted 135 on some kind of machine or smith machine and think "yeah no big deal to bench a plate"
