TSA Agent asked her for her number after she smiled at him.

She talks about having to live in fear because of things like this and also indirectly compares what happened to her to things like sexual assault.

Yeah she could of just said no politely and kept it moving without the social media post but at the same time.... if you're on the clock don't try to pick up women. Not professional.

I really, really want to give Brie Larson the benefit of the doubt and assume the TSA agent did something more that made her feel unsafe. If the truth is he simply said hello and asked for her number, then her comment is pathetic.

Damn, I guess it would not be a good idea for me or any of her other fans to compliment her looks if we see her somewhere, especially when the new Avengers movie comes out and makes her even more well-known.

lol at her saying he was in a position of "authority" and comparing it to a cop asking for a number during a traffic stop

Most of the comments are laughing at her, at least. Though my favorites might be the ones saying "why are you blaming her?" andsaying "well, not everyone's going to be offended by this happening to them, she felt differently."

He's there as a man of authority. He isn't there to oogle women to ask out. He's there to assess risks to the airport and to check for any and all security risks.

It is completely inappropriate for him to do that. He would indeed get into shit for doing this. It's entirely possible he still will.

How isn't it comparable? Both are checks from people of authority. Both can lead to people being detained.

She does sound a bit up herself for a while but when she specifically talks about the situation that is the reason
Yes. When I'm a person going through security, and the other is an employee of said security. It's inappropriate.

I disagreed at first but read through the comments and now I understand. It all comes down to environment, mood, and professionalism.

Brie Larson;
Thanks for taking the time to learn!

In that situation he is a man of authority. Imagine if a cop asked for my number after pulling me over. It's inappropriate.

Here's her tweet:

I merely smiled at the TSA agent and he asked for my phone number. To live life as a woman is to live life on the defense.

She smiled at him and he mistook her smile for something more, so he ask for her number. It was not a random "hey, she's a celebrity, let me get this girl's number" kind of thing. He probably didn't know she was a celebrity.

She tried to publicly shame a man for asking for a number and it backfired badly.

It didn't backfire. It is in no way appropriate for a TSA agent to ask out someone they're screening. Mistaking a smile for an opening is a poor excuse. He is literally security for the airport and airlines. It's a serious job to have.

It's never appropriate to ask a woman for her phone number according to some women. He asked, she rejected. That should be the end of it. Instead she acted like she was too good to be asked out by a TSA agent.

Where did Larson say it is never appropriate to ask a woman for her phone number?

She said it was inappropriate to be asked out about a TSA agent and she was uncomfortable. Which should be totally understandable. TSA agents are intimidating enough already. Women shouldn't have to worry about rejecting men who are screening them as potential threats. Even if you want to disregard that the dude should be focused on his job.

Didn't read topic but

1. It's pretty unprofessional to try and pick up men/women on the clock, especially if you're a TSA agent.
2. Just because a woman smiles at you doesn't mean she likes you.
3. It's a bit of an overreaction on her part, but I get where she's coming from

pretty much this. she overreacted, but she isn't wrong in that it's bad form for a TSA agent to ask for your number on the clock. anyone in a position that can screw with your day like that needs to be aware that you don't get to ask people out while you're on the clock. I get why he did it, but it puts pressure on her that isn't right
seems people took the whole "living on the defense" bit too far and she overreacted when responding

I wasn't referring to her specifically. While I agree that it's inappropriate, she could have just said just that. Say that it was inappropriate for a TSA agent to ask for a woman for a phone number while screening her and people will be on her side.

Instead she used the situation to push her feminist agenda and act all snobby. How can anyone feel sorry her for saying something as ridiculous as "To live life as a woman is to live life on the defense." That's A-level feminist victimization.

And yet people proved her point by attacking her over the tweet anyway. Despite it being an uncomfortable situation.

I do agree she could have worded it better. But it's Twitter. Tweets have a low post count. The point was that she has to deal with these inappropriate situations all the time.

Why do people still do this? Why? It was sort of funny back when we did not yet have the Internet easily accessible. (I can't be the only one old enough to remember those "dark" days.) Now you can use Google to find shit on anyone or anything in about 5 seconds, tops.

Edit: Btw, you guys should read that comment where she called herself powerful and strong. I'm not sure she understands what those words mean.
