Well, a new old car. It's a 2002 Honda Civic. Seller wanted $2200, but I talked her down to $2k even.

The good:
- interior is IMMACULATE
- exterior/paint is in great shape
- single owner with FULL dealership service history, with invoices in neatly organized folders
- recent safety inspection
- A/C still blows cold
- engine sounds good, revs freely and pulls just fine
- transmission is good - no grinding, no vibration, slides into gear without resistance
- steering is tight, doesn't pull to either side

The bad:
- 204k miles
- there's a rotational noise up front at speed, either a flat spot on a tire or possibly a wheel bearing
- original clutch (still grips fine, but I doubt there's much material left)
- timing belt will be due soon (interference engine, so I'm not gonna risk putting it off)

I think I made out like a bandit. I work at a dealership so I can do most of the work myself, or at least have it done at a discount.

Looks good. I had a 2006 civic and the transmission was abysmal. I've driven the model you bought, which is good, but mine had resistance with every shift and the power was poorly apportioned to the gears

Damn that interior is clean as fuck.

My 96 Honda is dying. It's got 200k miles on it, and I love it to death. I'll probably look into getting a used one like this.

I'd never buy a car with that many miles, but hey, knock yourself out.

I understand the sentiment. I figured the condition of the rest of the vehicle was worth the gamble. Besides, Honda long blocks are a dime a dozen.

I honestly prefer this look of the early 2000s late 90s honda over the bubbly later ones.

You'll easily get to 300k as long as you continue basic maintenance.

I bought a 1999 Nissan Maxima GLE for $1250 back in 2011. Ran like a brand new car and had 230k on it. Lasted until 275k problem free when my brother in law who I sold it to got t-boned by a drunk driver running a red light at 50mph

and he still drove it home

You have to be legitimately trying to kill a Honda, Nissan, or Toyota from that era.

Dad bought a Honda just like that one and a few months later some dick head tried getting inside by trying to pry the door open with a screw driver. Had to put in the garage from that day on

I rear ended an SUV in my '98 Maxima years ago. Tow hitch wrecked my shit - completely crumpled the front end and bent the radiator in half. Drove it about 3 miles to the nearest collision center dumping all my coolant without so much as a hiccup (though the temp gauge was really starting to climb by the end). I miss that car.

Oh hell yeah, the fourth gen Maxima is gonna be my backup car if I can fucking find another one. I see them everywhere in town except for Craigslist ads. Everyone with one knows that it's one of the best cars ever made and refuses to part with it :(

4th gen max has a coolant line that has a high chance of breaking from rust when you move the ac compressor to replace the serp belt.
