would a ban on guns go better than prohibition? and why?

We once had a ban on alchohol and it went so bad that the ban got repealed.

So could a gun ban actually be done in a way as to not become prohibition #2? Or is that impossible?

I mean the real reason why people flipped sit when prohibition happened was because most of them were addicted to alcohol. You physically cannot become addicted to guns so I don't think we'd have nearly as big of a problem as we did with prohibition

Well seeing as there are several right wing groups and lone wolfs that would immediately act out with violence, no. It would not go better.

It would be an unenforcable disaster, and quite possibly kick off a civil war.

While I think there are probably some people who might willingly give up their guns, I think this would literally lead to hundreds or thousands of deaths, if not more, when the policecame by to arrest the ones who didn't or at least to confisciate their guns.

Yes but the sheer amount of people who are addicted to alcohol before prohibition is shocking. Literally everybody drank, largely because clean water was near impossible to find pre-1900s.

I find this honestly hard to believe

we need 8 eight ounce glasses of water a day to be healthy

if you replace that all with alchohol, you would become really fat

but people today with clean water are fatter than people back then

how can this be?

Fucking knob, the reason you get fat when you drink beer is because of all the sugar. Grain alcohol (which is what they were drinking) had pretty much no sugar in it. Also the reason we are getting fatter is because people are becoming less and less active, not because we're eating more.

when someone uses an insult, as if they are mad their view is challenged,

it is a huge red flag they have no idea what they are talking about; thanks for the hint

http://history.howstuffworks.com/medieval-people-drink-beer-water.htm

Water in the Middle Ages was polluted, full of bacteria and, frankly, not fit to drink. This forced everyone -- from commoners to royalty -- to hydrate by way of beer. Except that they didn't.

The idea that people primarily drank beer throughout the Middle Ages is widespread -- and also wrong. A number of records from medieval times report that water was plentiful and common. One account by Gallo-Roman historian Saint Gregory of Tours mentions a boy so religious that he primarily drank water, (like many devout at the time). Gregory also mentions a traveler in the sixth century who asked a villager for water. In another story, there were telltale marks where a hermit had knelt to drink from a river. Sometimes water was mixed with wine or sweeteners like honey, and a 14th century monk once listed water as a beverage preferred over beer. Water, it seems, was on everyone's lips

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_alcoholic_drinks#Early_modern_period
It is important to note that modern beer is much stronger than the beers of the past. While current beers are 3-5% alcohol, the beer drunk in the historical past was generally 1% or so.[citation needed] This was known as 'small beer' and was drunk instead of water which, unboiled, was prone to carrying disease.[citation needed]

also the type of alchohol you are claiming they drank that has low to no sugar actually dehydrates you

which makes your claim REALLY suspect now

https://academic.oup.com/alcalc/article/45/4/366/155478/Hydration-Status-and-the-Diuretic-Action-of-a

https://gastrolyte.com.au/dehydration/dehydration-and-alcohol/

alcoholmastery.com/does-beer-hydrate-or-dehydrate-the-body/

but see, I won't call you a knob

I will just educate you

because I am a nice guy

so, hmm, instead of drinking water they drink something that makes them LOSE hydration, and that is how they...in absence of water...stayed hydrated?

that seems very very illogical friend

You cannot take guns away from people. The only way to get rid of guns in America is if people give them up willingly. If you take them away, the people will hate you.

I'm having trouble finding sources online but the Ken Burns documentary Prohibition goes deep into the history of Prohibition and Temperence. In the first chapter they specifically talk about how the transition from grog to grain alcohol turned many many people into alcoholism. If you're interested I can try to find the clip that's relevant on YouTube or smth.

thanks, I will check it out

but keep in mind just because a documentary says something doesn't mean it is true

ancient aliens is a documentary series too

but critically, how surviving by drinking basically no water just doesn't seem to add up

if their "alchohol" was basically boiled water, that makes more sense

but if it was much stronger, just thinking on the basis of dehydration effect should be a red flag

Well, i would bet there is more people who drinks alcohol than owns guns and likes them to the point they would break a law to acquire one and risk of going to prison for it.

There would still be less guns, even if some would refuse to get one illegally.
