Edit - id use my current monitor or tv, but the tv is a 19" vizio and the monitor is 4:3 with only vga...

You can hook anything up to a TV nowadays pretty easily and they are almost always cheaper then a monitor, so go with a TV.

Almost all TVs have a refresh rate of 60hz. Outside of gaming and home videos, almost everything on TV is limited to 24 frames per second (which is far too low for nearly anything, but only kept in due to old technology keeping a low framerate).

A monitor can go from 60, 120, or 144hz. Especially if you are using a very high-end gaming PC, uncapped the framerate on everything, and enjoying the smoothest gaming experience possible. Unfortunately, my laptop is capped at 60hz, but the next one I will get will be at least a 120.

idk what that means. I have a gtx 1070, can that do those refresh rates? Like, does refresh rate need to match the fps for it to even do anything? So if I'm capping at 60 fps, then 60 hz is good? Or ?

So unless you're a hardcore graphics whore, you probably aren't going to care about the difference and can get whatever's cheaper without losing anything.

That is a complete lie, 60hz is 60 FPS. The only TVs that are limited to 24 FPS are old CRTs, and those aren't even manufactured anymore.

I mean yea if you are spending $5K on your PC then you probably want a monitor, but for those of us who have to spend our own money to build a PC, 60hz is plenty. For example:

idk what that means. I have a gtx 1070, can that do those refresh rates? Like, does refresh rate need to match the fps for it to even do anything? So if I'm capping at 60 fps, then 60 hz is good? Or ?

60hz is going to give you the best quality for your money.

depends if you get a high end monitor or not.

If you want 90 - 144 fps you will need to get a monitor. TVs aren't built for that speed right now. Sure they are probably one or two out in the market but they are way to expensive for normal consumers.

What makes me mad is that, if you get a tv you will be playing with G-Sync on most of the time because if you go past the 60 fps you will get screen tearing.

Take a look at Best Buy or another electronics retailer and compare TV prices to similarly-sized monitors. TV's are, in general, much cheaper, though admittedly that's a hard comparison because a lot of the larger monitors available are a higher resolution than is available for TV's at such relatively small sizes.
