My vote goes to FF7. N64 graphics are a little to blocky.
The pre-rendered backgrounds and soundtrack of FF7 are still pretty amazing. --- Everything is awesome ... Copied to Clipboard!

Ocarina of Time.
Yes, it looks dated, but Final Fantasy 7 looks EXTREMELY dated. Plus the gameplay is pretty laughable compared to modern JRPGs (or even ones before it). --- I am a senior software engineer. If you see me post here, I am tired of writing TPS reports. ... Copied to Clipboard!

OoT. yeah sure the background in 7 look great but they really highlight how terrible the character models are in comparison.
gameplay wise both still play pretty damn well imo, so unfortunately it came down to how it looked for me. --- Cid- "looks like that overgrown lobster just got served!" Bartz-"with cheese biscuts AND mashed potatoes!" ... Copied to Clipboard!

it just really kills me. FMVs aside 7 had worse graphics than other games that came out around the same time, and it really astounds me how much they improved from 7 to 8.

Ocarina.
I still love them both. Both are great at creating an atmosphere. Zelda has those blurry N64 textures but better character models that don't look as much like Lego people. FF7 has better music to me. I prefer Zelda's (mostly) full 3D environments, while FF7's cutscenes are much more epic. FF7 had the annoyance of not being able to skip its long summon animations, while those 2 lovebirds in Zelda's castle town who just rotated in place always annoyed me too. Overall, its close to me, but I'd give Zelda the edge because I feel the gameplay mechanics were much more of an improvement over its 2D predecessors than FF7's. ... Copied to Clipboard!

OoT aged better in at least a couple of ways. It still looks like a fully developed game rather than a punch of disproportioned polygons farting their way to the finish line, for one. It never shoves annoying sidegames in your face in order for you to proceed with the main story.

Ocarina. on the music I guess if we went by the rule of thumb of what i'd more likely put on my mp3 player, but OoT had more memorable tunes imo (mostly cause they are catchy I suppose), and I do actually have more OoT remixed songs on my mp3 player lol. --- Cid- "looks like that overgrown lobster just got served!" I know it's not exactly relevant to the discussion, but just for the record: SM64 has aged HORRIBLY. I know some people out there have deluded themselves into believing otherwise, but they're just thinking with their nostalgia boners.

I knew the question before I even opened the topic. Ocarina of Time for sure, the game is still very playable and engaging. There's no tedium born from its aging that I can think of. Save game whenever, The controls are great, the art style is fine other than a pointy nose here or there. You can do some dungeons in different orders.

I agree gameplay wise, then again I never really liked how 3D platformers played anyways. Especially that camera you have to spend 5 minutes readjusting just to make one jump. Graphics wise, I think it actually looks pretty decent today. Yea, it is bad compared to Odyssey, but even compared to a lot of 3D games from the time it actually looks good. --- I am a senior software engineer. OoT
the Materia system in FF7 seemed cool a long time ago, but playing it recently it was embarassingly simplistic. in fact the whole combat system was pretty much dumbed down compared to previous FFs, (and those are already overrated as it is (specifically 6)). --- The truth basks in scrutiny. http://i.imgur.com/GMouTGs.jpg http://projecteuler.net/profile/Sahuagin.png ...
