Reggie's logic here.

"We were estimated to sell less than 2 million. But we sold 2.8 Million. That means we grossly overdelivered our estimates."

It's like these dumb fucks don't understand the purpose of preorders.

Stock is finally starting to remain in stores for more than a few minutes.
For now, anyway. If you're even thinking of getting one, they're all going to vanish again in November.

He said that they were expected to sell less than 2 million, but they still delivered 2 million, so in that sense, they overdelivered based on budgeted sales. When it ended up selling 2.8 million, the product greatly exceeded expectations.

So the price online for one might go up at Christmas time. Hmm

They did have issues getting the parts to make the switch, requires rare earth metals that are used for smaller devices, which means they are competing with Apple to get parts for the switch.

rare earth metals

The important ones (neodymium, samarium, dysprosium) aren't actually all that rare.

Lol you actually believe this? Every other smartphone maker on Earth can get those parts but somehow Nintendo can't.

Stop buying into their obvious lies to justify their artificial scarcity

Scalpers have nothing to do with it. If everyone (including scalpers) got a switch that they wanted, they still would have sold more.

They didn't have an artificial scarcity for the Switch.

They did for NES Classic and FE Fates, but not for Switch.

It's pretty well documented that we're burning through them at an unprecedented rate. Did you honestly think 10 years ago that anyone could've predicted just how much smartphones have become integrated in our lives. It went from being a luxury to a standard for 95% of people over 18.

If they want to up the price of the switch of course they could get it easier. You realize smartphone makers have been using the parts for far longer and easier to get them right?

Yeah ok, if they aren't doing this intentionally then they're incredibly inept at this.

You realize Nintendo is a multibillion dollar corporation and that they should have no problem getting parts that other tech companies have zero problems getting, right?

Stop this, defending artificial scarcity like this is pathetic

Imagine actually believing in artificial scarcity. News flash clown, there's no reason for them to leave money on the table. They're not losing money because they want to.

This reminds me of when I tried to buy a component video cable for my GameCube. It was out of stock everywhere, and Nintendo discontinued them because they thought nobody wanted them. They don't understand supply and demand.

The only alternative at the time was like a $100 Monster Cable

Thus, if you want one, get it now. They'll all be gone from November to February.

ZombieBird going all out again on the artificial scarcity shtick.

What evidence do you need friendo? Their expected sales stated BEFORE they released the console? Maybe that article explaining how they shipped switches by FUCKING PLANE to try and meet demand?

Nothing will convince you so there's no point in arguing. Switch sales exceeded expectations so they had shortages, it's literally that simple, your hate boner is just too strong to see it. You're wrong, deal with it.

I mean that's basically what I'm saying.

Normally you take preorders, find out how many preorders were put in, make that many units, and then ship.

What they did was make the units first, and then sold out of preorders.

That isn't normal at all. Almost no company does that, and the only one I know of that actually does that is Atlus. The rest make an amount, look for preorders, and then ship out the games.
