Personally I have never bought a phone that has costed more that 600 dollars/euros, so that's the absolute max for me. I'll never even consider buying a phone that costs over 1k.

But what does the iPhone do, for such a hefty amount that most mid to high end devices can't do? Sure it's going to be slightly faster (the screen isn't that good from what I've understood, it's less than half the brightness after calibrating compared to the Note 8). But devices that cost 400-500 dollars are pretty much good enough for everyone.

Why pay such obscene amounts for a device that you will replace 2 years down the road?

I don't like how they removed the Home button from the X. If they had moved it to the back or something, then I'd have been on board. Face ID or whatever sounds gimmicky, so I think I'll just get an 8 Plus whenever I do upgrade.

I have a 6 Plus currently, so it'll be a big leap for me anyway.

It's $1000 and its specs are similar to that of the Galaxy S6 which came out two and a half years ago and can be bought for under $300 now.

Which is pretty much my point, the only thing that they can innovate with now, are features and gimmicks, specs aren't going to make that much of a difference. You can buy a good mid end phone for 500~ish dollars, and it'll be able to do anything high end models can do too (Apple isn't the only one guilty of way too high prices). Hell, cheaper phones also have fingerprint scanners and such.

It is of course, the way the market works, if people are willing to pay what Apple or Samsung ask, then they can ask what they want. But I can never justify buying a phone, that costs more than an average PC, that you will replace faster than people replace GPUs.

It's hard to justify the price when most people can do what they need on something cheaper. Diminishing returns on phones these days makes improvements over generations much smaller.
