Some people have answered, but from what I saw from r/the_donald and other similar cesspools on Reddit, there is an admiration for their racial purity. They might not be "white" but they certainly aren't in the top ten or even twenty of group these people don't like. Plus their society is extremely heterogeneous, something that they admire (you always see this sort of "LOOK HOW GOOD JAPAN HAS IT WE NEED TO BE LIKE THEM" kind of thing when it come to immigration). They tend to like a lot of things out of Japan, and not just anime.

I don't mean in the mind of the person doing the hating so much as in the eyes of other people. Someone who supported slavery didn't view themselves as hateful necessarily but they sure look that way to us. Someone who doesn't think racism is a big problem in modern society doesn't look hateful to me unless they are presented with the evidence that it is and ignore it; prior to that, I view them as someone who might not know better.

I see what you mean, I think. In that case, the stuff we've been talking about does look explicitly hateful to me. Whether it looks that way to "other people", I dunno.

But to remember, this entire discussion started because I posted an article and said how parents were taking their kids out of the school over it (after going off in a school board meeting) and how the facebook posts on that article from the Pittsburgh affiliate was slamming the school regarding the issue.

Now, that was all that was said. And, I believe, that the very first response to that was Gmun making some sort of insult towards those parents.

Not that it really set the wrong tone of the discussion because it seems everyone on the left bar maybe 1 one or 2 just belligerently insulted anyone who posted in support of those parents positions. In fact, maybe it was a very good start to get a feel for just how you would treat someone in regards to the topic who didn't agree with you.

However, I really don't think the responses were proportional to the disagreement at hand.

I would actually point to Lopen's argument in the feminist starving herself topic that you guys specifically go out of your way to be rude or belligerent to certain users just because you want to paint them as awfully as you can in your mind to satisfy whatever preconceived notions you have about them already, no matter what their actual statements or content is.
