Go By Richard (Not By Dick)

I'll do write-ups for the rest if I get a chance.

This is exactly what I came to say.

I really like this guy's voice, it's a pretty emotional track too, the whole album is pretty emotional (and dedicated to Sampha's mother) I understand this probably wasn't a good song to nominate from the album for this group though (Seems like everyone prefers more fast paced songs) Still, a lot of the other songs from the album are really good! If you like good R+B/Soul, check it out! Most of the other songs are more production based too, if that's what bothered you!

i like both fast paced and slow songs and i don't have a problem with the piano; i play it myself and it's actually one of my favorite instruments (along with electric guitar/keyboards). (no one knows me) like the piano just wasn't a very good slow piano song imo.

Might not get through all of them, but some thoughts.

Circa Survive- The Amulet
I'll admit, the first time I listened through this, I was very underwhelmed. But each time I've listened since, I've come to appreciate the laidback feel of the song. It never really "catches" me, but I enjoy listening to it as a background song. Something I wouldn't actively seek out, but maybe something I would put on a playlist for playing games to, etc. The end is a little long.

Incubus - New Skin
Not gonna lie, I groaned for a second when I saw Incubus. But this is different than what I'm used to hearing out of them. I think a few other people have said this has old RHCP vibes, and I 100% agree. I was pleasantly surprised by this song. This is something I feel like should have been in Rock Band and I would've played it a bunch. Lyrics are a bit hard to understand due to how he's presenting them.

Louis Cole - You Will See
I'm not sure I have much to say here other than no. Just not a fan of the random notes all over the place, and all of the different parts of the song don't mesh. This is the only song on the list that I didn't listen fully through at least once. I just can't do it. And for a 2.5 minute song, that's saying something.

Steve Lacy - Dark Red
What a nice and chill song to listen to after the Louis Cole song. Has a good beat and I like the vocalist. I don't really know what else to say though, it doesn't really stick with me. Good song, but once it's done, it isn't really calling back to me.

I just accidently closed out of a tab with more writeups and I'm sad. I'll rewrite with less enthusiasm.

SZA - Drew Barrymore
Good song overall, but feels mostly the same from when it started to when it ended. Something about it seeming like a rap ballad which is probably really a thing but I don't know because I'm a rap dummy. Lyrics are good.

Sampha - (No One Knows Me) Like The Piano
I really like the piano, but the vocalist isn't doing the song any favors.

Organ Freeman - Go by Richard, Not by Dick
Song sounds at home with the soundtrack of Persona 5. Reminds me why I like playing jazz so much, energy is so high here. I'm never bored while listening. brb pulling my trumpet out of the closet.

Blonde Redhead - For the Damaged Coda
First off I'm confused by the band name. I really like the moment about 30 seconds in with the pause and bringing the drums in, good stuff. I kind of kept expecting the song to go somewhere, but it stayed with the same theme overall, which worked for this. I'm glad it wasn't longer though, I feel like it could've overstayed its welcome. Very haunting.

London Symphony Orchestra - Purple Rain
I'm going to admit something here: I've never been much of a Prince fan. That said, I love orchestral versions of songs. So I'm a little torn here. Overall, it hits mostly the right parts for me though. The swelling orchestra during the chorus is feels so majestic. I'm going to have to listen to a few more songs off this album to see if there are some songs I know/like better getting the same treatment.

Frank Turner - Worse Things Happen At Sea
I really liked the opening and was concerned before the vocalist came in, but I was happy when he did (betrayed by Sampha). I love the minor chords that are hit (something that will always be a hit for me). I'm not sure what else to say other than I liked this and will likely lead to me looking up some more Frank Turner.

Twelve Foot Ninja - Collateral
I was going to say the opening shift was unexpected, but it was a Steiner song so that's not true. This song has a mix of what I like and what I don't like in metal. I love when they are just singing normal, but the screaming/whatever you call it has always turned me off. It's why it's hard for me to find metal that I like, especially since I like the harder style often. Overall an enjoyable song.
