Do you live in the US? Because that's against OSHA regulations and is illegal as hell. you have to have 8 hours between shifts from the time you clock out until the time you clock in. I know this for a fact because i used to work emegency outages at a paper mill where we'd work 16 hour shifts until the job was finished but they made a really big deal about the 8 hour thing.

Sometimes OSHA actually pays out rewards for turning companies in for shit like this, so document this every way possible and turn their asses in.

I think the only exception is like if you're a surgeon doing a life-saving procedure or something like that.

Nobody is safe from OSHA, turn their asses in. OSHA doesn't fuck around with safety violations which is exactly what this is. Exhausted driving is more dangerous than drunk driving. If you don't want to do it for yourself, do it for all the other dumb saps that have been getting taken advantage of.

like seriously though, this is bigger than you. Making people work those kinds of hours is how people fall asleep driving home from work and kill a minivan full of kids going to soccer practice. You might not care enough to turn them in for yourself but think about the big picture. Plus, you might get money out of the deal.

That's what I was telling my coworkers. I said it makes more sense to have two groups - one that does regular hours and one that does 4-12 tonight (it's inventory or some bs) and then have the first group come in at 6 to finish up. They can have an agreement.

In canada they have to goto the ministry of labour and have those regulations waived if the MoL agrees. Then the employee signs an agrement with the company. Otherwise ya big big fines.

One place i worked for had us volunteer to sign cause our regular hours hit the max allowed. I did one year. Never again. That shit will burn you out quick.

again, don't do this. There's no actual benefit for you personally if you fuck up their shit. You're just giving them a reason to fire you then you'll look like a disgruntled employee if you try to report the violation after the fact and they might not take you as seriously.

Yeah, don't fall for that shit, you give a company an itch and they will take a mile, just like if you're being diligent in your work and end up doing stuff beyond your job scoop, eventually they'll start expecting you to do all that and more for the same amount o pay and actually get pissy at you if you don't do it.

that's specifically talking about split shifts, i was under the impression that tc worked a full shift and then had to come back 6 hours later.

I mean hey, i could be wrong, but if so then there's a whole papermill in Roaring Springs PA that is following a nonexistant OSHA rule. You can't get in trouble for reporting them either way even if it's not illegal.

Complaints from workers or their representatives are taken seriously by OSHA. OSHA will keep your information confidential.

second link is 2017 and says this
Extended and Unusual Shifts
Presently, no OSHA standard to regulate extended and unusual shifts in the workplace exists. A work period of eight consecutive hours over five days with at least eight hours of rest in between shifts defines a standard shift. Any shift that goes beyond this standard is considered to be extended or unusual.

Emergency situations, times of business transition, and when resources are scarce often require longer shifts. Such shifts usually come without warning and can take their toll on the health, safety, and productivity of employees.

Rest between shifts is not required if:
