Which wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't just a mattress on a dirty concrete floor in a completely open unfinished basement. This sucks. I wonder if I even can move out with my minimum wage job. I already have to pay for school and a $2000 clunker.

Eh you're still young so living at home isn't a bad thing. I mean it gives you opportunity to save being as you actually have a job. How much you save totally depends on how much you pay out though. In order to stay on topic though I guess I must ask you a question so:

You'll want a roommate or three if you want to pay for an apartment on minimum wage. At best if you're by yourself, you might find a place for around around $500 a month, but that's getting pretty rare and is flat-out impossible in a lot of places.
Paying for school on top of that? Yeah, look for a better paying job. --- And as her clothes all tumbled 'round her, I could hear my heart The moonlight shown upon her as she lay back in my bed ... Copied to Clipboard!

If you are past 25 that might be something to start being concerned about Might be sure. I'm 30 and live with my dad but don't care. Even if I had a job I probably still would for a bit as paying the rent/bills with two of you is much cheaper than on your own. Nobody will really judge you since nobody really gives a fuck now a daysl However if you really wanted to move out it is certainly possible on minimum wage. If he wanted to, he could take on additional debt to move out (assuming his parents charge no rent; mine started charging a nominal amount the day I entered college). However, if you're a student, it makes sense to still live with your folks because you're not really an adult anyway. Conversely, it's not *that* expensive to move out as a college student because you can usually find large groups of other students looking for roommates. However, it represents an additional expense per month when you're currently paying for school, etc. --- (\/)(\/)|-| In Zeus We Trust: All Others Pay Cash ... Copied to Clipboard!

The stigma against living at home in adulthood is almost entirely an American creation, and even then it's quickly evaporating as the economical situation is calling for it more and more. So don't worry too much about it.

Don't feel bad. It is better to wait to live on your own til you know you can afford a place. Frankly I'd wait til you get done with the degree cause you most likely will be so busy with going to college you'll forget to pay the rent on time and have to pay a bunch of late fees. Plus since I work in a grocery store and have for 9 years, I know people with limited availability because of school don't get that many hours. Or they end up getting a lack of sleep cause they work til midnight. Of course the store I work in is open 24 hours. For all I know you work in a store that closes at 10pm.

i'd much rather see someone living with their parents then just jumping on the welfare wagon. not bashing those on welfare, but when there is a option to not be a burden on the system i'd consider that the better option. unless your family is shitty of course.
