Watched Alien about a month or two ago. Thought it was ok.

I had a few other ones on my DVR and I'm a fan of James Cameron, I was very interested in Aliens. So I finished watching it recently and loved the ending. I watched it again yesterday and yeah, I really like it.

I have Alien 3 on my DVR but haven't watched it. I plan on watching it soon and I'm going to watch the others.

But I was wonder what you guys and gals think about the Alien movies and how is Alien 3 and beyond?

Oh and I really like Ellen Ripley's character development. She's such a bad ass.

Forgettable to bad. They attempted to make it into this big franchise, and there's not enough there to justify that. The first Alien gives you everything you need from the idea and concept.

Alien 3 starts out decent but then it jumps off a cliff about halfway through. Resurrection gets an enormous amount of hate, but I actually think it's pretty okay outside of the ending. I wouldn't recommend Prometheus at all, but Covenant is pretty good if you're willing to get past some predictable moments and overly dumb characters. If I were to rank them all:

Unpopular Opinion: The first alien looks like shit by today's standards. It looks like a guy in a poor rubber suit flopping around and chasing after a mannish protagonist who strips down to her underwear for no discernible reason. Even the infamous chestburster scene looks laughable.

No one likes Alien for the special effects anyway. It wasn't trying to be Transformers 5.

Eh, the alien does look like a dood in a rubber suit. She was stripped down cause she was getting ready to enter the sleep chamber thingy.

I love the original, and it is one of my favorite movies. I am also one of those who enjoys Alien 3, but accepts that it has a number of flaws. ... Aliens is a different genre, and it is not bad, but it is not the same, either, IMO. Alien: Resurrection is shit. Prometheus is interesting, and it has ideas in it that I wish it had explored more, but I agree that the characters make several decisions that are openly dumb. I have not seen Alien: Covenant yet.

Original is still the best. 2 isn't anything special by today's standards because so many other films built on its framework afterwards. 3 is good.

Do not watch the fourth film or either AvP, they are horrible.

Imm say go ahead and watch the first AvP. It's not the best movie, but it's just fine if you like Alien and Predator movies. The second AvP is complete trash though.

I do admit the first AvP has some cringe moments, but I can look past those.

First two are good. People choose their favorites on those based on what genre of movie they prefer. I like the second better than the first.

3 is alright. Starts off okay then ends kind of badly. Resurrection is whatever.

Hated both Prometheus and Covenant as Alien movies. On their own, they're mediocre, but trying to establish themselves into the lore has made them fail so incredibly. The plot holes... oh God, don't get me started.

AvP: the first one is okay, the second kind of sucks.

I was watching Alien 3 but it started off bad and boring. I watched about half of it until I turned it off and deleted off my DVR. I'll give it another try some other day.

It was dumb how they killed off Hicks and Newt.

I quickly read what happened in Alien 3 and didn't miss anything it seems.

Alien 3's problem was that it was trying to follow two radically different films - one a sci fi horror movie, the other an action movie. It attempted to "complete the story" when both of those films were already self-contained anyway. I wouldn't have minded if they did away with all of the old characters and told a new story. But a studio would never allow that - it has to be a franchise. Gotta sell the toys, set up the sequels, etc.
