If you're into aliens/conspiracy theories, it's great.
It falls off in the last couple of seasons, but still decent.

It is okay. I had some fun with it, but I think it's the only show I've ever started to binge watch and abandoned before I finished it.

As to how it compares to Breaking Bad, GoT, Mad Men, and The Wire: it does not.

I watched the entire series last year and loved it. Yeah, the last couple of seasons aren't so great, but it's not a big deal.

Not all episodes aged well, but the Mulder/Scully stuff, and many MOTW episodes, are eternally enjoyable.

I will say this. Unlike every other show I've watched, the monster of the week X-File episodes were way better than the mythology ones.

One of the best shows ever. The mythology eps get weaker in the later seasons and there are some absolute duds, but Mulder and Scully are always fun to watch.

Mad Men > The Wire > The X-Files > Breaking Bad > Game of Thrones

I got about half way through the second season. I thought it was getting to be something I liked but I just started to lose interest. I guess I expected it to be more serious/spooky? It seems like its taking itself less serious as it goes.

Man if you thought the episodes in the first two seasons weren't serious enough, I'd love to see your reaction to some of the goofier episodes later in the series.

It's nothing like any of those shows you listed so don't go in trying to compare it

Its great when it has a serious tone but the goofier episodes could make your stomach turn. I actually enjoy the later seasons since I prefer plot over characterization.

One of the best scifi/mystery series ever written.

I enjoyed both the story arcs and the monster of the week episodes.

A lot of the shit is still relevant.

I rewatched like four or five seasons last year and it was fun. A lot of nostalgia from the show. It had its spooky moments and also cheesy moments. Fun show if you are into this genre and it's hard to compare to the shows you've listed.

I haven't seen the new season completely, only a couple of episodes. Didn't really enjoy it.

X-File is good in it that baits you into it's mystery and horror however every ending is very inconclusive or just not satisfactory IMO.
