I wanted Roger to do something cool but he gets completely and utterly BTFO by Dimmesdaddy

I expected that because we read Hawthorne short stories to prepare for The Scarlet Letter and the person who throws their humanity away in those stories typically ended up victorious in some way

But this book was more typical with "the truth sets you free"

Maybe that's just because it's old so it's unfair to judge it in that regard. Still a good book

Agreed, I enjoyed it. I love older books that can give you an insight into ages past.
