Yes you both would.

My parents have an iPhone... I have had times where I 'had to' use it and it was horrible. The UI was horrid, and the actual touch screen seemed far more finicky than even my original Nexus phone from like 10 years ago. If I had a choice between a regular phone to make calls, or an iPhone, Id take the regular phone. At least it will make calls and have a decent battery life.

Nah, I seriously wouldn't. Being annoyed everyday by my phone is not worth the $800 or so it would cost me to get a superior phone.

How is an iPhone not flexible and Android is? Because you can't play emulators and install themes as easily on one of them?

I take picture on my iPhone, it immediately pops up on my iPad, where I can share it, or my Mac, where I can edit it. All of this is done through the OS. I add an event to my calendar, it pops up everywhere. If you have schedules on Google/Windows, it's easy to import those too.

I just don't get how one could say that an iPhone is objectively obstructive in real-world use when its entire purpose is to be the exact opposite.

eh i kind of get what admiral is saying. the iphone is only very integrated like you are saying when you own a billion different apple products.

i have a windows PC at home and dont own a tablet, so my iphone is my only apple product, and it's basically a technological island for my other devices. the only continuity i have between them all is google services.

meanwhile there are a lot of things with iphones where i feel like i have to bend over backwards. say a friend emails me an album, on an android phone i can immediately save the album to my google drive straight from gmail, download the music files right out of my drive, and you're good to go with the new music without ever putting down the phone.

with my iphone if i get an album i have to put it on my drive via the PC, then i have to download it there, then plug in my phone and transfer the music to iTunes and then to my phone, and God help me if this iphone is not the one that's registered to my desktop PC. it's a pain in the ass for no reason.

that being said at the end of the day a phone is just a phone, i use it for calls/texts/emails/gps/music/etc and thats pretty much the same thing across both platforms.

When I temporarily had Android last year I had an Android phone, a Windows PC and an iPad.

Was still able to find some common ground between the three. Google Chrome syncs between all three for example, as well as their Photo/Docs apps.

Downloading has always been an oddity for iPhone, but with iOS 11 they're gonna have a general files folder that'll work for direct downloads and the such, so that shouldn't be as tedious as it has been so far.

Either way, these are all far cries from saying iPhone is incompatible with daily life, likely for trivial things such as customization and rooting (which Samsung phones don't let you do anyways now)

Bingo. Any type of file sharing across platforms is atrocious with an iPhone. Tasks that should be simple -- like downloading audio files -- requires the inevitable use of iTunes, which is easily the worst mainstream software ever created. Want to do work on iPhone involving spreadsheets or MS Office files? Better clear your calendar. It's unnecessary burdensome because Apple assumes its users are tech-illiterate children who will screw up if given any freedom over their media outside of the Apple ecosystem. Since most people's jobs use Windows, it's a nigthmare to do this work using an iPhone.

In terms of customization, iPhone isn't even close. My homescreen on my Android phone has useful info I need -- widget showing me the stock indicies, real-time weather, even a step counter (gimmicky, but fills the space). I have custom LED notifications via Lightflow that always let me know if I have an email, text, calendar reminder, or missed call simply by glancing at the phone -- even if it's across the room. That's incredibly simple and useful feature that I'm amazed iPhones don't have. Alerts give me exactly the info I want displayed, and if I don't want an app bothering me with alerts, it never will. Also, no clue if this has been added to iPhones yet (didn't exist on the iPhone 3s, which is the last I used), but I tether my phone to my tablet and laptop all the time when traveling, and do so easily using a free app.

I'm sure I'm missing quite a few important things, but the point is pretty clear. I got tired of wanting my phone to do something and the response being "change your expectations, you have an iPhone." Not making that mistake again.

Downloads have always been fickle, but iOS 11 will have a general folder app for those downloads like Android.

I never had a problem working with other documents on my Mac though; at most they just convert the font to a compatible one on it. And yes, I can run Windows on it if needed. Most of those complaints are antiquated now.

Proper widgets have been around since last year, and while they're not at a glance, they're a swipe away on the left, out of the way. The LED feature is a tricky one, but overall I've found it to be not incredibly necessary, especially when I can get notifications on my Apple Watch and set notifications to constantly go off until addressed.

So yeah, sounds like your gripes with iOS are all prior to iOS 7 when they redid everything up.

Between those 2 options, you'd be better off with the iPhone. A $1,000 car would be a total piece of shit and there's a good chance it wouldn't even get you across the country.

Personally I feel that the $300 - $400 price range is where the best value is in the smart phone market lately. I try to stay in that range when I buy and I never end up regretting it. The differences in a $400 and a $1000 phone are really not THAT huge.

This is true. Cheap phones now are way higher quality than they were just a few years ago. And most are pretty future proof so even something from like 2014 will still be good for awhile.

It's a shame the iPhone X is so expensive because I really do like it, other than the no headphone jack thing which is still total bullshit because everyone else can do thin waterproof flagships without sacrificing it.

If I do finally switch to iPhone I'll probably grab the 6S or SE. Just holding out on a possible SE 2. iPhone 5S body with 7 specs instead of 6S would be fucking awesome.

No, those are just half of my gripes, and most of them are still not properly addressed. Apple phones have increasingly removed (or never had) useful consumer features and convinced users that these are steps in the right direction. The iPhone X does not have:

- Removable battery
- SD card
- 3.5mm headphone jack
- TouchID

Yes, the much touted "facial recognition" is to make up for the fact that Apple couldn't figure out a way to get TouchID to work with their new screen, and they couldn't be bothered to put a fingerprint censor on the back like Android phones with the same screen types have. Thus, another useful consumer feature lost because it's better for Apple, not for you.

to me that seems like a square peg in a round hole type solution, though. i dont want to have to spend $300+ on a (what I would consider useless) smartwatch just to be able to have an easy way to view notifications.

i think notifications in general are my biggest gripe with the iphone; i dont know why apple cant group similar ones together and organize them by importance, rather than making everything its own individual item. but with an iphone you just have to learn to live with it
