Not sure. A 1 percent chance of a terrorist attack isn't high, but I guess I wouldn't really feel totally safe either.

Rhetoric aside, isn't it a bit hypocritical to cite the safety of America as a reason to be active about terrorism, but not to be the same way about the environment?

You have to compare the damage from GM to the damage caused by trying to avoid it. It's worth noting that we keep hitting these inflection points that supposedly mean we're doomed, and politicians propose measures that don't even work per the models.

That's the thing, nobody actually WANTS to stop climate change. To actually stop/reverse it would require drastic, traumatic changes to our way of life and worldwide cooperation on an unheard of level. It's great to go on twitter and rant about "things have to change", but as long as you want to keep driving your car, eating meat, and having an abundance of goods to purchase at low/not-insane prices, the climate is going to continue to change

Funny how this statement comes from those making minimal sacrifice asking others to make substantial ones. At that point it stops being WE have to do everything and becomes YOU have to do everything.

Well if taxpayer dollars started going towards fighting it then it would be harder to say the everyday person is making "minimal" sacrifices.

Ok so by eliminating "burning s***" you just shut down most methods of transportation, shipping and production. Congratulations, the world has come to a screeching halt. Good solution.

Because we all pay the exact same dollar amount of taxes right? What was the figure some years back: 47% of Americans don't pay income tax yet want a say in how tax dollars are spent.

Assuming that is because of untaxable income, you are correct that addressing social mobility would help fix several issues.

What if.... and this is a biggun' - What if there's literally nothing that our country can do vs what others produce? What if self important knobs who can't stand on their own use this as a crutch, but unless you're willing to send most developing nations back to the stone age, we can't conserve enough to make up for an average work week?

We're empowering these nations to harvest polluting resouces to meet demand vs getting it ourself. Could be done better and cleaner and sold by us, but instead we're strangling ourselves in the name of an environment we don't even care enough about to learn more than the talking points of the latest en vogue interpretation of a disaster that's been waiting on the horizon since the late '50s.

Well in my very limited understanding of the issue, there's more being invested in renewable energies in developing countries as opposed to developed ones.

But assuming that you're right and that any progress in the developed world is nullified by the developing world, and also assuming climate change is a real and direct threat to us, isn't leaving the Paris climate accord an unadvised act for the U.S.?
