When we were checking in to our Delta flights out of Miami, they were asking for volunteers because of overbooking. I'm guessing they didn't manage to get any volunteers though, because then the flight was delayed for hours due to "bad weather". Even though the weather was perfect and there was another airline leaving at the exact time and going to the same destination, and there was no delay for them. A lot of people had to find different flights to make their connections and then suddenly the delay was shortened. No more volunteer issue and they don't have to pay squat to people who are inconvenienced.

Airlines are scum.

It's the free market at work. How can you hate the free market unless you're a SJW liberal?

IIRC, it's only illegal to conspire with other providers to artificially raise prices far in excess of demand and 'force' consumers to pay above market prices.

As such, unless Delta and all or most of the other airlines said "Let's all raise our ticket prices by three grand", it's legal, although it's generally viewed as a dick move.

Anti-trust and monopoly laws are a big filthy mess, and although I know quite a bit about them, I'm by no means an expert. I also know virtually nothing about FAA guidelines and federal airway laws, so there may in fact be rules and regulations against that.

That's just the cost of full fare tickets in economy. Delta didn't change anything, the normal fare tickets you're used to seeing simply sold out. Call Delta and ask them for Y (economy) tickets to literally anywhere, they will cost multiple thousand dollars.

And once again, it's unfortunate that Delta prioritize profit over disaster relief. And also a bit weird tbh. I'd expect companies to do more for PR purposes, and I'd expect compensations paid from the govt to companies (as part of relief packages etc) who do make substantial sacrifices.

Then why does the notice in the OP have it listed as a price change? It does not seem to indicate that it is a different ticket, it literally says this ticket was this much and is now this much
