When you post a wiki link, and people can click on it in real time and see the claims you're making, they can see if those claims themselves are supported. If you link to some wiki page and the whole fucking thing is full of a bunch of [citation needed] tags, then your argument isn't being helped by wikipedia. if it's backed by actual citations though, it is, and it's fine to use wikipedian in those circumstances. the volatile ever-changing nature of wiki is what makes it bad to put on generally unchanging academic reporting.
