Is it weird that the Rockies had a tenth anniversary "Rocktober" celebration tonight and brought back a bunch of players and honored them on the field? That kind of thing is basically an admission that your franchise sucks. It's like hanging banners for wild card spots

The Brewers had a 35 year celebration this year for the team that made it to the World Series. That banner is the only thing us fans have had to celebrate in all these years.

The Rockies won 16-0 tonight... damn. Kinda nice to see that Jordan Lyles still sucks after the Rockies DFA'd his garbage ass earlier this season. Okay, that sounds super petty, but I just mean it would have been awful if they had gotten owned by some scrub they (rightfully) jettisoned

I thought you meant they clinched it, in which case I was going to say that's impressively bad with how long is left in the season, but I had to check because I thought the Phillies were worse. So they haven't clinched it yet, but they're actually behind the Phillies now, which is still impressive.

Cards and Brewers both lost and the Rockies won. Still a little bit of time left for someone to make a run at them I guess but the Rockies are starting to look relatively safe again at 3.5 and 4.5 up on their competition with 13 or 14 games to go. It's hard to imagine either NL Central reaching 89 wins at this point but that shouldn't be too hard for the Rockies. Plus the Cards and Brewers play each other in the last weekend of the regular season which is a classic spoiler situation in the works.

The Rockies meanwhile get the Padres and Giants a bunch to close the season before finishing with the Dodgers who may be resting their guys. My prediction is that the Rockies will win the wild card by one game and it comes down to the Cardinals or Brewers series. Like the Rockies and Brewers enter the series tied and the Cardinals sweep the Brewers.

Have you ever gotten nostalgic about a game but aren't sure if you want to play it because you know how dated it is and you don't wanna kill the good vibes you feel towards it? That's been happening with me with Perfect Dark lately ever since I heard some music from it. So many N64 games are virtually unplayable now, sadly

That happened to me a couple of years ago with Goldeneye, where I realized how terrible the graphics, controls, and almost everything is. At the same time, I can still remember how much fun I used to have and it doesn't ruin those memories for me.

I kind of hate how Goldeneye and Mario Kart 64 are the multiplayer N64 games everyone talks about. Despite being pretty active with the N64 when it was current, I never had either of those. Were they ever even that good? I played a lot of Perfect Dark and Diddy Kong Racing instead, and yeah they also suck now, but I'd say that they're clearly superior than their respective counterparts

I never liked MK64 because it felt clunky, and DKR was definitely a better single-player experience. I do think Goldeneye was that good in its time. A lot of people say Perfect Dark is better, but I didn't play it until long after it was dated so I can't really judge. Goldeneye had the recognizable 007 sounds, the polish, and all the stuff you could want in a casual game that was easy to pick up and play while still having lasting depth. Maybe Perfect Dark had that stuff as well, but it just wasn't as popular even back then.

Well, Perfect Dark was pretty late in the N64's life. It came out only a year and a half before Halo! That seems crazy to me. We played Perfect Dark for what felt like years, but we played Halo as well when it was still new. Actually, I don't think I got Halo until 2003, so it makes sense. That was back when you could get a game that was two years old and everyone was still playing it. Now it all moves too fast.

I would have agreed with you on MK64 as a kid, but that's because I would have stanned for Diddy Kong Racing. Loved it at the time, and now I would still rather play MK64.

Goldeneye on the other hand was fucking awesome. Update the controls (see Perfect Dark HD on the 360 for how you could do it), and you'd have a relatively solid game. Multiplayer was obviously what everyone talked about, but it had a damn solid single player mode that was a good balance between challenging and fun. And the best cheat codes out there.

Not to mention the fact that they released like 3 or 4 years apart so of course more people played GoldenEye and have fonder memories of it. Plus the 007 license was cool and you didn't need the memory card add-on like you did for Perfect Dark.

Didn't they already release a couple different remakes of Goldeneye? And speaking of which, maybe I should check out PD on XBLA, but I'm not sure if it's even available anymore and I'd miss having all the cheats I unlocked. One advantage Goldeneye has is having push-button cheats, even if they weren't really intended as cheats.

True, but you know that very few people love Goldeneye (the game) because they're fans of the movie. And I guess I've had an expansion pak for so long that I forgot which games needed it. The thing I never understood about that add-on was I believe it was planned from the start and it wasn't very expensive, so I'm not sure why it wasn't just included with the system to begin with

To my knowledge the only games that needed it were Perfect Dark, Majora's Mask and DK64, which is not very good and it randomly erased my save one time so I never played it again. We didn't get the pack for a very long time, because every time we were in position to receive a new video game we weren't gonna waste any of that opportunity on a friggin optional memory card. I probably didn't play any of those three games until they were done making new N64 games entirely.

Majora's Mask annoyed me as a kid because it needed the expansion pak, yet it had fewer save files than Ocarina. That's part of why it took me a long time to warm to it, but I'd say in general it's one of the rare games that's actually more fun the second time you play it.

Our first N64 game was Jet Force Gemini which we didn't really like too much. It came in a bundle at Sam's club for our main birthday present. We were really more of a PS1 family to be honest. N64 didn't become a big thing until Goldeneye for us and then when we got into old games years down the line.

I remember liking Kirby 64 when we rented it, but I was probably just too young. My understanding now is that the Kirby games are pretty casual, which I'd agree with so far having played the first three games recently.

JFG was an interesting game, but somehow even that was susceptible to Rare's collectathon tendencies. How many third person shooters were around at that point though? It probably would have been a great game a generation later
